Public Events and Outreach Fund Application for small grants PhilSoc has established a fund to support public events and outreach events which promote interest in the structure and history of languages, or public support for the teaching and study of languages in the UK. 1. Please take the following points into account before applying a. Applications are open to current members or student members of the Philological Society. b. Activities should be aimed at the general public. They must promote public interest in topics such as the history or structure of language, and the teaching of languages and linguistics in Britain. c. Funds are modest. Applications for amounts over £1000 cannot be considered. d. Please apply at least two months before the planned activity. Retrospective applications cannot be considered. e. All events must take place in the UK. 2. Exclusions a. Academic conferences are not funded by PhilSoc. b. Applications cannot be made to fund instructional courses in a particular language. c. We cannot pay fees for speakers or organisers. Please submit an electronic copy of the application form, together with any supporting documentation 1. 8. Social Media and recording/live streamingPlease indicate whether you will be using social media (such as Twitter or Facebook) to promote the event, or will be making it available via electronic media

9. Any other observations (optional, max. 150 words).

Successful applications All activities funded by PhilSoc must include acknowledgment and (where possible) the PhilSoc logo. Original receipts must be submitted for all expenses. Please send a brief report (up to 500 words, with a photograph if possible) after the event for publication on

the PhilSoc website. We also welcome advance publicity (150-200 words) for publication on the website. If you plan to make a charge for admission, please allow a concessionary rate for PhilSoc members.
