1 ST PUBLIC - PRIVATE - ACADEMIA PARTNERSHIP (PPAP) MEETING FOR DISASTER RISK REDUCTION (DRR) “Facilitating DRR Partnership with the Private Sector in Malaysia” 18 OCTOBER 2018 14:00 PM – 16:30 PM SAMA SAMA HOTEL KLIA CONCEPT & OBJECTIVE The importance of private sector involvement in disaster risk reduction (DRR) has been recognized in the Sendai Framework for DRR (SFDRR) 2015-2030. Accordingly, UNISDR has launched the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) across many member states with purpose to create risk-resilient societies by energizing the private sector in collaboration with the public sector and other stakeholders to deliver on the targets of the SFDRR. In spite of this, concrete actions to develop such partnership have been limited in Malaysia. The objective of this event is to discuss and extract the possibilities and challenges of Public-Private-Academia Partnership (PPAP) for DRR in Malaysia. Specifically, the participants will discuss on (1) exploring possibilities to facilitate risk-informed DRR investments in Malaysia and (2) visions and expectations for establishing an action-oriented DRR partnership.
