    INTRODUCTION

    Managers will evaluate the moral dimensions of a decision beforemaking it. The moral yardsticks used to evaluate a decision consistof the moral standards of a societys culture.Ethics involve the useof moral standards when making decisions.

    Moral standards consist of specific moral norms and generalmoral principle moral norms prohibit certain types of behavioursuch as lying, stealing and killing. moral principles provide moregeneral guidelines for behavior and are applicable to decision

    Theories of Ethics

    DEONTOLOGY : is derived from the Greek word deon,which means obligation or duty. It stresses on what is obligatoryand what one ought to do, whether or not it is good to do so.Speaking truth may not bring good to some but, one must speakthe truth as it is the moral duty of each good to some but, one

    must Speak the truth.

    TELEOLOGICAL : Teleological theories hold thatrightness or wrongness of action is always determined by itstendency to produce certain consequences which are intrinsically

    good or bad.

    Origin of business ethics

    Business ethics has come to be considered a managementdiscipline, especially since the birth of the social responsibilitymovement in the 1960s. An increasing number of people assertedthat because businesses were making a profit from using ourcountry's resources, these businesses owed it to our country to work

    to improve society.

    Today 90% of business schools teach business ethics. Ethics in theworkplace can be managed through use of codes of ethics, codes ofconduct, roles of ethicists and ethics committees, policies and

    procedures, procedures to resolve ethical dilemmas, ethics training,etc.
