STORY OF THE MONTH

The Farmer and The Baker

Once there was a farmer who regularly sold 500 grams of butter to a baker. The baker took it without weighing

it. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter that he bought from the farmer. Let me find out if I am getting

the exact amount of butter I am paying for. What he found out shocked him! What, the butter weighs only 450

grams! The farmer has been cheating me for so many months. The baker confronted the farmer and argued with

him.You have cheated me. I will take you to the court. The judge listened to both the parties patiently and then

started with the proceedings. He questioned the farmer. How do you weigh the butter you sell to the baker?

The farmer remained calm. Your honour, I do not have proper measures, but I do not have a scale. Then how

do you weigh the butter. The farmer looked at the judge. Your honour, long before I sold the butter to the baker,

I have been buying a 500 gram loaf of bread from him every day. When he brings the bread, I put it on the scale

and give him the same weigh in butter. The baker looked guilty. The judgment was very clear. If anyone is to be

punished, it is the baker. He has been cheating the farmer for long. The farmer is innocent as he trusted the

baker.

FESTIVALS

Teej, 2019

Teej is seen as a seasonal festival which is dedicated to the onset of the monsoon.

It falls in the month of Shravana and Bhadrapada. This festival is celebrated by

singing folk songs, flying kites and swaying on a tree swing. People love to eat

‘Ghevar’ a special sweet. It is famous especially in Rajasthan, Bihar,

Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Raksha Bandhan, 2019

Raksha Bandhan is a popular festival of Hindu. It is observed on the

last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravan. On this day, sister

worships the God and ties a sacred thread on her brother’s wrist and prays

for his prosperous future. This festival is celebrated with great

happiness in all over the India.

Independence Day, 2019

Independence Day in India is celebrated every year on 15th of August

in honour of the birthday of the nation on 15th August 1947, India

achieved Independence from British rule on this day PM hoists the

national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi and tributes are paid to

the freedom fighters. This national festival is celebrated with great

enthusiasm in all over the India.
