WHO is involved

WHAT is the plan

WHERE is the plan

WHY is the plan

HOW will it happen

Client: City of Woodstock

Community: citizens and businesses

Project Management: Woodstock + Atlanta Regional Commission

Core Team: project management + com-munity stakeholders

The Woodstock Town Center Downtown Plan is an update to a previous 2002 Town Center Plan that crafted a community vision for revitalizing and redeveloping Woodstock’s Downtown, focused on building appropriate land use and connectivity in downtown and surrounding areas, and included urban design guidelines and economic development recommendations focused around the downtown core.

This plan will build from the successful foundation of the 2002 study, and, based on market realities, develop an action plan that emphasizes economic viability, connections, public space, natural resources, and coordination among many key partners, ensuring that the downtown area retains its desirability for residents of all ages. It will also include key catalyst projects and implementable actions in the areas of land use, mobility, and economic development.

Analyze Existing ConditionsIdentify Assets and ChallengesDevelop a VisionConduct a Market StudyCreate a Concept PlanDetermine Action Items

The plan will visualize, conceptualize, and implement an inspiring vision for the Woodtock Town Center Downtown area for the next 5-10 years, and it will help gain access to funding sources for implementation of the plan concepts that will improve livability and sustainability.

The Woodstock Town Center Downtown Plan is the area that centers around Arnold Mill Road / Towne Lake Parkway and Main Street. It is bordered by I-575 to the west and Highway 92 to the south. It includes the area north to Woodstock Elementary and east to Rubes Creek. Please see the adjacent map indicating the study area boundary.

THE VISIONWoodstock is a sustainable city with hometown pride. Our city is a community designed for a lifetime, with fi rst class neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown, and natural and designed beauty. Our residents enjoy convenient living and active lifestyles, and downtown Woodstock is a regional destination with shopping and dining in a traditional walkable downtown atmosphere. Woodstock is an inclusive, lifelong community, with housing and amenities that appeal to individuals and families at all stages of life.

PRELIMINARY DESIGNSAt the Design Charrette on August 21st and 22nd, 2012, the Core Team developed alternative concept plans for the study area. The concept plans were infl uenced by community values and goals derived from community and business meetings and surveys. Technical inputs, including the market study and retail advising, also informed the process. The teams relied on the design elements shown at right: key strategies for good urban design, land use elements, and transportation elements. Some of the concept plan sketches are shown below.
