The project team posts photos and status on the following site: https://www.facebook.com/DuPontSidewalkTeam/. Martin ST and Fisher ST Tree Removal. Started 12/16/19 and Finished 1/10/2020 to remove dying / diseased raywood ash trees. 24 raywood ash trees were removed, and 22 hornbeam trees planted on Martin ST. 28 trees removed on Fisher ST with 19 Chinese Elm and 13 Japanese Katsura planted. Snow Prep Day. Hosted on Friday 11/1. Staff prepared the two dump truck with plows, and mounted our stake truck with an anti ice sprayer. Staff re-oriented themselves with the equipment operations, as the last time it was used was February of this year. The anti ice sprayer is new as the original sprayer is no longer serviceable. Reviewed primary and neighborhood routes for snow and ice removal work. A Snow and Ice Prep video was completed with PC TV. This document is updated every 5- years. The WSP includes chapters in water system description/analysis, planning for consumption demand, water use efficiency, well head protection, operations & maintenance program, capital improvements, and financial analysis. Approval of the plan with City Council was on 12/10/19. The final step is with the Dept. of Health acceptance/adoption in February 2020. Historic Village Cherry Blossom Trees. 39 trees were planted that were donated by the Lions Club along Barksdale AVE and Ethel Lumdsen Park in the Historic Village. Work was coordinated with Lions Club and Tree Board volunteers. Water Meter Replacements. Scheduled staff to replace commercial meters serving the Cal Portland property. This included a 3 inch and 2 inch water meters. 5 staff members worked on this replacement to gain training and experience of working inside of a vault and piping fabrication. Bell Hill Neighborhood Park. This park has trees and shrubs that are overgrown and encroaching onto private property. Arborist review during summer 2019, identifyed trees and shrubs to remove, allowing the existing trees and shrubs to grow while remove those that are encroaching on private property. Due to heavy rain, turf restoration will be during the early spring. Restoration of crushed gravel park path, and placement of wood chips on tree/shrub beds. Similar work will be scheduled for Garry Oaks and Jensen parks which are tree and shrubs heavy for the end of 2020.

Monthly Activity Report for November 2019 – January 2020 Operational Highlights

Contracting Highlights

Study for Improvements to DuPont Steilacoom RD between Wharf RD and the new I-5 Exit 119 is underway. Completion of this environmental and design work is March 31, 2020. Construction funds were secured in the State’s 2019 – 2021 biennial budget for $3.9M, but is frozen due to I-976 vote in November 2019.

Overlay of Center Drive between Hamilton AVE to Powerline RD. Design awarded 6/11/19 with completion October 2019. Awarded the construction contract on 12/10/2019 for $340K. The construction will occur spring/summer of 2020.

Hoffman Hill Reservoir Interior Coating for Corrosion Preservation. This project will remove corrosion on the interior of the 3M gallon steel tank reservoir. Awarded 9/10/2019 for $873K. This work will start in December and the reservoir will be restored into service by end of April 2020. This work will take the reservoir from service and wells at Hoffman Hill will be used in extreme condition, such as a major fire.

Public Works Facility. The Public Works Department is in dire need for a replacement Facility and Yard. The present facility and yard is undersized, and missing functions that a public works department needs. Design for the Public Works Facility started in February 2019, and will complete by February 2020 and to award in March/April 2020.

Automatic Water Meter Reading. The Automatic Meter Reading design will start in 2020, and construction will be in 2021 – 2022.

Water Production November produced 23.2M gallons or 3.1M cubic feet, December produced 21.9M gallons or 2.9M cubic feet and January produced 21.2 gallons or 2.8M cubic feet. All 3 months matches historical trends.
