Background
No public sewerage system in Lamma Island at present
Sewage is treated by individual septic tank in general
Nearby rivers and waters at Yung Shue Wan may be polluted and hygiene of the area may be affected by leakage from poorly maintained septic tank
Public sewerage system is proposed to improve the water quality and environmental hygiene condition of Yung Shue Wan
Project Description
The Lamma Village Sewerage Project is conducted in 2 stages
Stage 1
Works commenced in early 2008. The scope of works comprises provision of sewerage system for central part of Yung Shue Wan, Sha Po (part) and Po Wah Yuen (part) ; construction of sewage treatment plant and submarine outfall
Stage 2
The Project, which is currently under detailed design, includes:
Provision of sewerage system for 18 villages and areas
Construction of 3 sewage pumping stations at O Tsai, Tai Wan and Hung Shing Ye
• O Tsai • Tai Peng • Po Wah Yuen (part) • Yung Shue Long New

Method of Sewer Laying
Most of the sewers will be laid
in narrow village accesses.
Owing to the site constraints,
open-cut excavation conducted
section by section is proposed
to minimize length of trench
excavation and nuisance to
public.
Traffic Impact Assessment
Suitable traffic mitigation
measures will be implemented
during construction (such as
temporary pedestrian access
and deck-over on the trench
during peak hours)
Sufficient width will be
maintained for vehicular
passage in the main accesses
Minimize the inconvenience
caused to villagers
Temporary pedestrian access
Deck-over on trench
Environmental Impact and
Mitigation Measures
According to the preliminary environmental review, no unacceptable environmental impacts are anticipated during construction and operation after applying suitable mitigation measures
Recommended mitigation measures during construction include:
Use of quiet plant and temporary noise barrier
Dust suppression by regular water spraying
Stockpile of construction materials and wastes will be covered with tarpaulin
Site runoff will be treated and controlled strictly
Quieter equipment
Sewage Pumping Stations (SPS)
Due to topographical constraints, 3 sewage pumping stations have to be built at O Tsai, Tai Wan and Hung Shing Ye
In addition to technical feasibility, the followingfactors have also been considered in site selection: Public nuisance and opinions from residents
Environmental impacts
Maintenance and operation issues
Land resumption
Tai Wan SPS
Hung Shing Ye SPSO Tsai SPS
Environmental Mitigation
Measures for SPS
Adopt activated carbon deodorizers
Use of quieter plant
Provision of silencer
Greenery and enhanced architectural design

Land Requirement
To avoid affecting private land development,
sewerage design will have the following
considerations Minimize resumption of
private land
Avoid bisecting private lot
Sewer to be laid at
unobstructed access as
far as possible
Avoid affecting the
facilities of the village
houses
Sewer alignment to minimize the impact to
private land development
Sewerage Connection by
Property Owner
