A result of great collaboration, a big-name concert will be returning to the Northeast Montana Fair (NEMF) this summer. Recording artists Emerson Drive and J.T. Hodges are set to take the stage Friday, July 29th. After a multi-year hiatus, the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Milk River Motor Sports, KLTZ/Mix-93, the Glasgow Rodeo

Committee and the Glasgow Tourism Business Improvement District have partnered with the NEMF Board to make it possible. “These groups are heavily vested in this concert,” said committee member Haylie Shipp. “We hope to rejuvenate this part of our Northeast Montana Fair, adding energy to the entire event.” Tickets will go on sale Monday, March 14th and can

be purchased from the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and KLTZ/Mix-93. Other changes to this year’s fair include moving the PRCA Rodeo performances to Wednesday, July 27th and Thursday, July 28th. The much-anticipated, pack-the-grandstands demolition derby will conclude the NEMF on Saturday evening, July 30th.

Big changes coming to the Northeast Montana Fair

For well over a decade, Emerson Drive has been a staple in the country music community, known for being a band to crank out the hits, deliver electrifying stage shows and wow audiences all across North America. During their evolving career, the Canadian band — consisting of Brad Mates, Danick Dupelle, Mike Melancon, and Dale Wallace. has scored numerous hits such as “I Should Be Sleeping,” “Fall Into Me,” “Last One Standing” and their emotional, chart-topping ballad, “Moments.”

The Prairie Symphonette will be hosting its 39th Annual Spring Concert “A Spring Fling: A Celebration of Music for Films”on Saturday, March 12th at 3:00 p.m. in the Scobey High School Gymnasium. The concert will feature show tunes and movie theme favorites, including The Lord of the Rings, Highlights From Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean, Go West, and many more. The concert is under the direction of Matthew Goettle. Also featured will be a Tuba performance by Marty Erickson, a professor from Lawrence University in Kansas. Mr. Erickson will also be conducting a low brass master class for area students at Scobey High School this Friday, March 11th. The Prairie Symphonette is made up of performers from northeast Montana and Western North Dakota, including the towns of Scobey, Glasgow, Nashua, Froid, Williston, and Flaxville. There will be refreshments served after the concert. There is no charge for admission, however contributions are welcome, and a donation basket will be at the door.

JT Hodges, who will be performing at the 2016 Northeast Montana Fair, signed with Show Dog-Universal Music in 2011 and released his debut single “Hunt You Down”, which charted on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs. The follow up single “Goodbyes Made You Mine” raced up the charts and the music video quickly racked up more than one million views; the song continues to be a fan favorite. Another single off the album “Sleepy Little Town” spent two weeks at #1 on Sirius/XM’s The Highway. That same year Hodges was nominated as a semi-finalist in the New Artist of the Year category for the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.

We are happy to report the doctors have given the green light after a number of tests. A special thank you to all my guardian angels at church on New Years Day: David & Ellen Guttenberg, Nancy Carney, Dawn Sugg, and Mary Volk as well as the ambulance crew (Clay & Sherri Berger and LeRoy Kountz) that came and picked me up and took me to the hospital. Also the Emergency Room staff that got me back up and running.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks honored the service of its Region 6 Hunter and Bowhunter Education volunteer instructors at the annual workshop held on Saturday, February 27, at the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow. The workshop is an annual event that invites all the volunteer instructors across the region for a day filled with visiting, updates to the program, demonstrations of new equipment and ideas, and most importantly, honoring years of service. Receiving awards at this year’s workshop were numerous instructors with service ranging from 5 to 30 years (please see the list below). All service award recipients receive a plaque, with other milestones receiving special awards, including: 10 year: engraved knife; 20 year: FWP belt buckle; 30 year: voucher for purchase of a firearm. Highlighting this year’s awards was Larry Lett, of Malta, who has been an instructor for 30 years. “As evidenced by the decades of service our instructors give to our programs, there’s an incredible amount of dedication and commitment out there in our communities,” said FWP Region 6 Information and Education Program Manager Marc Kloker. “These volunteers play a key role in shaping future Montana hunters by providing training in safety, ethics, conservation, and the proper use of firearms and archery equipment. Larry Lett, and others like him, works very hard to pass the state’s rich hunting heritage on to the next generations. Please be sure to thank your local hunter and bowhunter education instructors when you see them.” Also receiving a special award, for the Region 6 instructor of the year, was Beau Hyatt of Bainville. Beau, a junior instructor, received his 5-year instructor plaque this year. Beau has been involved, along with his dad Chuck Hyatt, in instructing eight classes since he began. He has taught every aspect of the hunter education course, and has logged numerous hour of set-up, prep, and clean-up of each class. Beau plans to continue instructing hunter education, as an adult instructor, as he begins college this fall in Havre. “I have seen Beau’s dedication and commitment to hunter education firsthand,” says Kloker. “He relates well to students, demonstrates all aspects of safe and responsible hunting, and is a very dedicated instructor. He, and other young instructors, is the future of the program.” In addition to the awards, many door prizes were

also given away. Donations from Glasgow businesses Markle’s Ace Hardware, D&G Sports and Western, and Westside Sporting Goods in Malta made almost everyone a winner. FWP donated several items including outdoor equipment, a Buck knife, Onyx Map chip, a framed elk print, and numerous discount vouchers. FWP is thankful to have hundreds of qualified instructors across the state, and always welcomes new additions.
