NARRATIVEThe Pueblo Interagency Dispatch Zone experienced an average fire season during 2014. Kansas dominated the large fire activity having 28 large fires, the largest being Road Y in Lynn County (Mar 20th) for 4500 acres. On June 23rd, the Eight Mile Fire (CO-RGD) 528 acres and our only IMT fire for the year. The Bureau of Indian Affairs wildland fire program supported an interagency Ty 2, East Divide increasing Pueblo Zones Crew availability to 7.

Weather conditions this year were moderate, an increase in precipitation and milder temperature assisted in the reduction of large fire growth in Colorado. The month of November set new records in Colorado, early artic conditions brought heavy snow and low temps, by the end of the month Colorado was seeing 70 degree weather.

Senate Bill 14-164 authorized Department of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to purchase, lease, and contract aviation resources beginning July 1, 2014. The Colorado Firefighting Air Corps (CFAC) was authorized to assist local jurisdictions with initial attack wildland fire response on state and private lands within the state of Colorado, and national large fire request. The aviation fleet increased from 2 SEATS to include 2-T3 helicopters and 1-T2 restricted helicopter . Pueblo Interagency Dispatch Center took the lead in mobilizing and hosting some of their aviation fleet increasing coverage of aviation resources within the zone and Colorado.

This is the second year the center has participated in Operation War Fighter and the first year we had an apprentice from the USFS Apprentice program. Krystal Quiroz will continue in the program in 2015 joining the staff at PIDC.
