Believe in world-class healthcare where you live.
Creating seamless patient care through Electronic Medical Record access for community hospitals
physicians and providers and they share our commitment to
providing world class health care in the communities where
patients live.”
Through this affiliation, Compass and Steward will work together
to provide enhanced patient care on the South Shore and lower
total medical expense. As part of the agreement, Compass will
operate under Steward’s global payment contracts with
commercial insurers. This reimbursement model lowers health
care costs and enables providers to tailor their practices to meet
the specific needs of their patients. Joining Steward also gives
Compass providers enhanced access to Steward’s network of
health care providers. Three Steward hospitals, Quincy Medical
Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton and Morton
Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton are located in the
Compass service area. Compass will continue to refer patients in
need of tertiary care primarily to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
"Compass Medical is pleased to have our new affiliation with
Steward. This affiliation allows us to marry world-class community
care with world-class tertiary care," said George Clairmont, MD,
President of Compass.
After careful consideration about the future of healthcare
and of how to best serve our loyal patient base, Compass
Medical, P.C. has opted to end our long-time affiliation with
Partners Healthcare and Partners Community Healthcare
Inc. and progress into an enhanced community based
affiliation with Steward Health Care, LLC.
Boston - December 7, 2011 – Steward Health Care LLC.
(Steward) announced today that it has entered into an affiliation
agreement with Compass Medical P.C. (Compass). Compass, a
fully-integrated health care community that provides primary care,
urgent care and specialty services for the entire family, is a
network of over 90 providers serving the South Shore of MA.
“We’re excited about delivering more closely integrated care at a
community hospital level and that’s the opportunity that an
affiliation with Steward brings for our providers and, most
importantly, our patients across our service area – all while
maintaining our relationship and the access to the excellent
tertiary care that Brigham and Women’s Hospital and
Massachusetts General Hospital represent,” said Jamie Barber,
Chief Executive Officer of Compass.
“Giving local physicians the tools they need to work together with
their community hospital benefits patients and helps lower health
care costs without sacrificing access or quality,” said Mark Girard
Executive Vice President of Steward and President of Steward
Health Care Network. “Compass is a group of high quality,

To celebrate the opening of our newest comprehensive medical center, Compass Medical Middleborough, we
hosted a VIP ribbon cutting and a public open house at our new site to introduce ourselves to the local
community on Friday November 4, 2011.
At 4:30 pm on Friday November 4th Compass Medical kicked off the VIP Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with
appetizers and mingling, followed by speeches by Compass Medical, P.C. Executive Director Jamie Barber,
Middleborough Town Manager Charles Cristello, State Senator Marc Pacheco and Compass Medical, P.C.
President Dr. George Clairmont. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the four orators brandished ribbon cutting
scissors and posed for a photo op of the actual ribbon cutting. Over 100 people were in attendance at the
invitation only VIP Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, comprised of Local Healthcare Executives, Community Leaders
and Compass Medical Providers.
Guests of the ribbon cutting were encouraged to also attend the public open house, where building tours,
conducted by Compass Medical staff, were provided all night long, touring through the Radiology, Urgent Care,
Primary Care and Cardiology suites. Informational tables about Compass Medical services were set up in the
lobby, as well as Compass Medical Middleborough Providers and staff on hand all night answering questions
and navigating the tours. By the end of the event, the public open house hosted over 400 local community
members, and registered 30 new patients on the spot. Many community members remarked how excited they
were that they now had a convenient Urgent Care Center right in their community rather than having to continue
to travel to further towns.

DOES THE STEWARD AFFILIATION AFFECT ME? A GUIDE FOR CHANGES TO BE EXPECTED
Though there have been many news pieces within the local medias since the affiliation was announced in December, we at
Compass Medical wanted to directly address the foremost question on our patients mind, What does this mean for you?
For our patients, you can still expect the high quality, comprehensive care that they have always enjoyed with us, while
still having access to local specialists. Our Providers will remain as “Compass Medical” and our staff will continue to be
the same friendly faces you have always seen. Compass Medical will still participate in the same insurances we do
today, with the potential to add some new insurance products in the near future with our new Steward affiliation. Our
Compass Medical specialty care will still be available at multiple sites, including but not limited to Behavioral Health
Services, Cardiovascular Centers, Radiology & Imaging, walk-in Urgent Care Centers and more.
Through this affiliation we can now offer seamless medical record access into community hospitals and lower our patient’s
cost and travel time for specialty care. Compass Medical works with many local community hospitals and will continue to
do so when affiliated with Steward, the largest fully integrated community care organization and community hospital
network in New England. Despite our new affiliation, your choice of specialty care always has, and will continue to be, a
decision between your primary care provider and yourself. Compass Medical providers maintain good relationships with
many local specialists in our community, ensuring that you receive the best coordinated care possible. Compass will also
continue to send patients to Brigham and Women’s Hospital as well as Mass General Hospital for tertiary care.

new headshots for any provider that desires one, in addition to taking candid shots of the event as the night progresses.
In addition to the social, we will be presenting our second annual Provider Service Awards. Our Service Award recognizes

2011 Award Recipients
As part of Harvard Pilgrim's ongoing strategy to recognize and reward quality care, Harvard Pilgrim has created
an "Honor Roll" of physician groups whose commitment to high quality care has earned them the distinction of
membership on the Harvard Pilgrim Physician Group Honor Roll. The Honor Roll for adult and pediatric
practices is based on performance against national HEDIS quality benchmarks, as reported by NCQA.
Harvard Pilgrim has a long history of disseminating comparative performance data on quality to its network
providers. Harvard Pilgrim's review of the best performing practices enables them to learn about physician
group based strategies, tools, and techniques to improve performance in managing quality and to facilitate the
dissemination of best practices across the Harvard Pilgrim network. In addition, use of quality performance
information is increasingly becoming a key tool for members to use in selecting a primary care physician.
Compass Medical has showcased a proven track record for excellent quality care and has received this HPHC
Honor Roll recognition in past years. This year’s award continues to highlight the outstanding and hard work
that Compass Medical Providers and Staff are dedicated to achieving.
Compass Medical has been awarded the 2011 Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Physician Group Honor Roll
Award. This Award recognizes Compass Medical’s superior performance across 17 Health Care Quality
Measures, including comprehensive diabetes care, preventive care screening for breast & cervical
cancer, asthmatic medication use, and numerous other clinical management activities. Compass
Medical joins nine of sixteen Partners Regional Service Organizations who also received this
distinction.
Forget toy trucks! On May 20, 2012, children of all ages are invited to Southeast Medical Center to climb and
explore real trucks of all shapes and sizes at the fourth annual “Touch A Truck” event.
Touch A Truck is a family oriented event sponsored by the Old Colony YMCA's East Bridgewater branch. The
YMCA holds the annual event to raise funds to benefit their Strong Kids Campaign. The Strong Kids Campaign
provides financial assistance for Y memberships, childcare, before and after school care, Camp Satucket and
other recreational programs.
Compass Medical is proud to join with the YMCA to help host this event. In addition to the trucks, there will be
other children's activities and refreshments. Please stop by the Southeast Medical Center at One Compass
Way in East Bridgewater on Sunday May 20 from 1-4pm to join in on the fun!
If any Compass Medical employees would like to volunteer at the event, please contact the Marketing
department at [email protected].
FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHT: Heart Health Month
UNDERSTANDING THE NUTRITIONAL LABEL FACTSProvides serving specific guidelines
You probably already use the Nutrition
Facts label in some way—maybe to
check calories, fat or sodium content. But,
the more familiar you are with the
information, the more you’ll want to use it
daily to ensure you’re eating a healthy,
balanced diet. Use the label not only to
limit fat and sodium, but also to increase
nutrients that promote good health and
may protect you from disease.
Strive for a diet that emphasizes fruits,
vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or
low-fat milk and milk products. Include lean
meats, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts.
Choose foods that are low in saturated fats,
trans fats, cholesterol, salt, & added sugar.
Be sure to be aware of the serving size
and servings per container. The Nutrition
Facts Label information is based on ONE
serving, but many packages contain more.
The % Daily Value is a key to a balanced
diet. It serves as a general guide to help
you balance servings of food with your
total daily diet. It can help you determine
if a food is high or low in a nutrient—5%
or less is low, 20% or more is high.
1. Exercise Daily
2. Reduce Stress
3. Plan Healthier Meals
4. Set a Health Goal Timeline
Not sure what to focus on to make your lifestyle healthy? Speak with your Primary Care Provider to develop specifically focused goals for you.
February was Heart Health Month. Over the course of the month, the Compass Medical Cardiovascular Center distributed Heart
Health pins, and weekly health tips & recipes to promote heart health awareness and education. For a complete list of health tips and
recipes, visit www.compassmedical.net/heart-health or register to receive health tips in your inbox.
February 3 was National Wear Red Day. This annual event is a massive public awareness day urging everyone – women, men,
businesses, towns, schools, the media, buildings, and landmarks – to “Go Red” to bring attention to the No. 1 killer of American women –
cardiovascular disease. Wearing something red supports this groundbreaking national movement that helps raise awareness to empower
women to reduce their risk. Wear Red Day efforts advance research and education to prevent and treat heart disease and stroke.
NEW YEAR, HEALTHIER YOU
The American Heart Association recommends 30 minutes of moderate activity, but three-10 minute periods of activity are
almost as beneficial to your overall fitness.
• Studies show that for every hour of walking, life expectancy may increase by two hours
• Walking for as few as 30 minutes a day provides heart health benefits
Forget the old stigma about exercising, certain chores and even fun activities can help towards getting into better shape. Living an active
lifestyle isn’t limited to working out in a gym for hours a day. Mix it up and have fun with staying active; Take a nature hike, learn a new
style of dance, opt for the stairs rather than an elevator, even take a few extra laps around the mall while shopping. Exercising comes in
many shapes and sizes, and can even be fun. The opportunities are endless. Make a plan to commit to 30 minutes daily of some sort
of physical activity and it will start paying off sooner than you realize. Physical activity boosts mental wellness by relieving tension,
anxiety, depression and anger. Exercise increases oxygen and blood flow to the brain which improves mental acuity and memory.
Stress can be a contributing factor to many conditions, such as high blood pressure and premature aging. Start 2012 by identifying
what stress factors are present in your life and develop plans to minimize or eradicate the stress completely. By attacking stress
factors head-on, you can take charge of your own mental well being by being aware of what and how stress comes into your life.
All too often the excuse is made where “I don’t have any time to cook” and a fast food meal suffices as nutrition. Start planning healthy
meals for the week in advance of going grocery shopping, and plan on keeping easy healthy food items like fruits, vegetables in the front
on the refrigerator shelf, so they are the first things you reach for. Keep whole grains on hand rather than processed, bagged or frozen
items. Have a guilty habit of potato chips? Try soy or vegetable crisps instead. Indulge often in ice cream? Try low calorie versions or frozen
yogurts. Indulgent items don’t need to be completely removed from your diet, but rather enjoyed in moderation or in healthier imitations.
Many times a “new year’s” goal is set, but forgotten by mid January. Develop a 6 month or longer plan for your healthier you
transformation. Really want to lose those 10 pounds? Make a goal of achieving that in a rational amount of time by making small
tweaks to your normal routine. Would love to quit smoking? Set a plan to continuously decrease intake until a “quit” date is
reached. Don’t set unrealistic goals that will be easily abandoned once the hard work begins. Instead create a reasonable goal
and a reasonable amount of time to complete that goal, while improving the healthy choices that you make daily.
