Dear RPIA Families,
We have had a very busy week! All students completed Acuity C
testing in the areas of Science, Social Studies, Math, and Language
Arts. Your child will be bringing their scores home, along with
midterms on February 28th. I ask that you take some time to look this
information over and to celebrate your child’s achievements and
growth.
Attendance each day is extremely important for consistency in
learning and creating routines. Over the next couple of weeks,
attendance for our students is even more important because of
ISTEP. Please continue to make every effort in making sure your
child is present at school. When your child has to be absent, please
reach out to the teacher for their make-up work.
Please put these important dates on your calendar:
ISTEP Applied Skills: March 3 – 21
ISTEP Multiple Choice: April 28 – May 9
As always, I appreciate your support. – Mr. Koomler

Thank you to our neighborhood Meijer store. They have donated a gift
card for use in their store. The money will be used to support materials
and supplies that can be used in the RP Media Plex. Community is part of
a successful school and we are lucky to have the support of our local
Meijer store.

Parentsare the CORE
is a collaborative series of
workshops with Warren families
and staff in grades Kindergarten
through 6th grade. Each PAC
session offers dinner at no charge
and activities for students duringthe presentation. The purpose of
these workshops is to share
information on topics such as
report cards, homework tips,
school safety, student behavior,
and the special needs of kids. Each
year, parents will be surveyed for
possible presentation topics. It is
our goal through the PAC
Workshops that parents makeconnections with not only the
school, but also other parents.
Students whose parents
attend may participate in
dinner and activities,
supervised by members
of the Warren Central
Student Council.

ORDER IN THE COURT! ORDER IN THE COURT! We’ve all heard that phrase
numerous times, and this month, as we begin to talk about ORDER here in
school, we remind our students that ORDER is the opposite of chaos. We are
encouraging our students as we prepare for ISTEP to make sure that they are
contributing to an orderly classroom, where learning can take place and
safety is prevalent. As we explain to our students: At Raymond Park, we
show Order by following rules and procedures that keep everyone safe.
I will continue to remind you that if you are modeling ORDER at home,
students will have an easier time with following rules and procedures here at
school. As we really step it up here at the Park getting ready for ISTEP,
ORDER becomes even more important. These are not new tips, but if you are
not doing them now, you need to get into the routine of order before ISTEPbegins (in March). Please decide now if your child is not getting enough
sleep. For students in 5th and 6th grade, we know that students operate much
better in the classroom and on tests if they have had 10 – 12 hours of sleep.
(AH, doesn’t that sound wonderful). But when I talk with many students,
especially those in 6th grade, they may be going to bed at 10:00, which at best
only gives them less than 9 hours of sleep. Start the routine now of going to
bed at a time where they will get more than 8 or 9 hours of sleep. They may
not like it, but in the long run, it will make a huge difference in the ORDER at
your household. They will not be nearly as grumpy if they get enough sleep.
They will do better on their school work as well. If you have any concerns
or questions, please let me know.
Many of our students have experienced the loss of grandparents, aunts,
uncles, or even pets lately. I have met with some of these students and will be
happy to meet with yours if you would like. We spend about 15 -20 minutes
together and that typically helps a student to know that when they are feeling
sad, it is normal and they can come and see me. Please feel free to give me a
call or email me if you have a student that might benefit from some time
together.
Since this is Valentine’s weekend, please remember to tell your students, “I
LOVE YOU.” For some of you, that’s a normal part of your routine and ORDER.
If that’s not the case for you, please be sure and remind your child this
Valentine’s Day that they are loved. Everyone needs to know that they are
loved.

Apps That Parents Need to Know About
KIK MESSENGERThis alternative texting service let your children chat and swap pictures while
bypassing your wireless provider's SMS service. So if you are checking your child’s
normal texting history for signs of misbehavior, you will not find any evidence.
SNAPCHAT Every day, 400 million photos are shared and then they disappear, as Snapchathas them automatically self-destruct in ten seconds or less. The problem? Apps
that let others capture those supposedly temporary images and post them onlineare now widely available. Snapchat recently began offering a “Stories” feature that
lets photos survive for up to 24 hours.
TINDER Dating apps like this let you scroll through images of other members and flag theones you like. If they also like you, you're both notified, and then you can contact
each other. The problem? While some services require users to be 18 or older(Tinder's minimum age is 13), they never actually verifies anyone's age. It doesn't
get any scarier than that.
