What time of year is best to plant a pumpkin seed?
• The best time of year to plant your pumpkin seed is mid summer. They need lots of time to grow, and be ready for October!

Put your seed in soil. Make sure it gets a lot of water and
sunlight!
• After 7 to 14 days the seed will sprout!

Once it Sprouts, The vine will begin to grow along the ground.

The vine and roots will continue to grow for the next 8 weeks. Growing up
to 6 inches a day!!!

10 weeks, the first flowers appear!
• Bees take pollen from the male flowers and plant the pollen in the female flowers! The female will then develop a baby pumpkin!

A baby pumpkin starts off as green!

The baby pumpkin keeps growing,
and as it gets bigger. In late August
it begins to turn orange.

Once the pumpkin is orange and the skin is thick and hard, you can cut it off
the vine!

Once you have a pumpkin, you can cut it open, and see the insides. Roast the
seeds and eat them! They are very yummy!

Some people use pumpkins to decorate their house for the Fall
season!

Some people carve their
pumpkins for Halloween!
• They are called Jack-O-Lanterns!

After you are done using your
pumpkin for decoration, bake it
into a delicious pumpkin pie!
