punjab's expiry date?? - fighting drugs with books!
DESCRIPTION
Punjab is slinking towards a vortex of Drugs and Alcohol, which has made many magazines give an expiry date to its present generation. As the state moved away from its wealth of heritage spiritual values, the situation was aggravated by lack of education. Illiteracy has taken a heavy toll of the state and its is reflecting now in its rapidly declining socio-economic parameters. The Kalgidhar Society, Baru Sahib has been waging a lone battle by fighting Drugs with Books through its rural education chain of 129 schools. Bring out-of-school rural children into value-based schools, saves them from falling prey to Drugs and Alcohol. rather, they are brought into the mainstream to become the nation's assets.TRANSCRIPT

The Impact
272 may be the magic figure a coalition needs in Lok Sabha to form a government, but in Maqboolpura, a locality on the edge of Amritsar, the number has a completely different meaning.
272 is the exact number of widows receiving the government's widow pension here. Husbands lost to drug addiction, earning Maqboolpura the sobriquet of 'locality of widows'.

PUNJAB’S DRUG MENACE-V
From snakebite to lizard puff, drug addicts trying it all for a high
Controlled snakebite: Each bite of a particular snake costs Rs 8,000. The impact of one bite remains for a week.
Lizard tail puff: To make it less poisonous, the tail is half-boiled and then kept on a lamp. Once dried, addicts crush it and fill it in a cigarette.
Frog sweat: A frog is made to run for some time. Addicts then lick its sweat, which provides an instant kick.
Sniffing glue: Many youngsters have even died due to over-sniffing these poisonous solvents.
White eraser fluid: Easily available at stationery shops, it is sniffed for a high.

After establishing 129 Schools
• The ruler of Sabo Ki Talwandi (Sri Damdama Sahib), Chaudhary Dalla became a devout disciple of Guru Gobind Singh
• Once under Divine will, Guru Ji gave a blessing and said, “Look Bhai Dalla! Canals are flowing here.”, while the area was full of Sand. Today that prophecy has been realized & canals irrigate the whole region.
• Guru Ji again said, “Look Bhai Dalla! Farms are full of mangoes, oranges and grapes.”, while there were plants bearing poppy pods only. This region is now covered with fruit orchards all over.
• Then Guru Ji again blessed for the third time, “Bhai Dalla! Fields full of wheat crops are flourishing.”, while there were wild bushes all around. Today fields here are yielding huge wheat crops.
• During the scribing of complete Sri Guru Granth Sahib, as per Divine order, Guru Ji began sharpening wooden reeds, and while throwing these into the Sarovar, uttered the fourth blessing:
• “As Kashi Banaras is the center of learning in ancient India so shall here emerge, a great center of Divine learning of Guru Kashi”
• I personally look upon this as my duty to deliver this project for the
benefit of Sikh Panth. Since this is a massive project that would cost
around $100 million, I would require and plead for the support of all and
one! • ~ Baba Iqbal Singh
