INDUSTRIALISM
Puntarenas embodies a different type of industrial activity, one which consists of smaller scale industrial sites, all lined up to form an industrial coastline throughout scattered scenarios of the Pun-tarenas north shore. Even though small scale, their impact on the materiality of the coastline is imminent, causing a solidification of an otherwise maleable and ductile geomorphological behavior.
This type of programmatic solidifcation has a greater impact on the ecol-ogies which interact with the urban development of Puntarenas. Like-wise, the development of the city has seen itself greatly influenced by such a program, creating the first development ‘boom’ of Puntarenas.
developing under a state of contradiction
The industrial pattern of Puntarenas ac-counts for 15% of Puntarenas’ income
The industry represents the largest economical sector of Pun-tarenas, yet currently is neglected from most of the urban de-
velopments of Puntarenas.
The industrial sites are located mostly facing front of the mangrove and estuary, potential intense economic and touristic attractors,
accounting for most of the biodiversity on site.
developing under a state of contradiction
The touristic settlement of Puntarenas ac-counts for 10% of the city’s total income. The touristic settlement of Puntarenas competes with the in-fraestructure developed for the industrial sites and breaks the dynamics of the industry’s connectivity.
Tourism is located towards the most traditional beachfront façade development, nonetheless greatly affected by contaminants, lack of programmatic use possibility and poor touristic attractors.
