Pure and General

I N T R O D U C T I O N

Pure and General opened its flagship store in Sydney, Australia in June 2011 offering a unique and eclectic range of home wares. Curated and specially commissioned products by artists, artisans, designers

and architects for living and working environments fill the store.

Sourcing and commissioning globally, an ever-changing line-up of original product from furniture to home wares, stationery, art and utili-tarian products; a piece from Pure and General adds a touch of magic

to any space.

Pure and General also provide professional interior styling design and architecture services.

Pure and General was co founded and is directed by Linda Gregoriou and Dale Jones-Evans.

A collaboration of professional and multi disciplinary minds.

Linda is an urban geographer and urban

designer, property developer, published author, a one time academic, loves art and de-sign and sits is on the Foun-dation Board of The National

Gallery of Australia.

O U R H O M E

Pure and General was planned as part of

the redevelopment of a former 500m2 car

park. Dale Jones-Evans Pty Ltd undertook

the re-development also housing their gallery and offices

in this space. A new streetscape was made. A new streetscape was

Architecture) acquired and redeveloped a former 500m² car park in Potts Point, Syd-ney converting it into Dale’s architectural offices, a place for his contemporary art col-

lection, a window-gallery and office for designbank.org and

a space for Pure and Gen-eral’s flagship store.

Pure and General

Dale Jones-Evans designed Pure and Gener-al’s store as a simple raw gallery space. The existing off form, textured concrete ceiling and columned space was juxtaposed with new crisp, gloss perimeter gallery walls de-signed for the stage setting and installation of merchandise. This understated design

approach ensures the merchandise does all the talking.

Pure and General

The Pure and General café (by Felton & Co.) will be an eclectically decorated, intimate and

friendly room offering a simple range of organic, specially designed teas, coffee and fresh juices, Venetian style sandwiches, baked pastries and biscuits. Occupying the glass cube within Pure

and General, it will feel like you are sitting amongst the stores furniture and merchandise. You will be! Café opening 1st October 2012.

Theatre, art, architecture, whimsy and playfulness underpin the conceptualising of Pure and General’s

window installations. We are conscious that ‘the merchandise is the narrative’ and that it is sensual and

A little bit domestic a little bit kooky. Pure and Gen-

eral’s window is made up of hand embroidered tea tow-els from Denmark, Indian

chipati rollers, Turkish Kilm love seat and a Belgium

limed chest of draws.

Pure and General’s Christmas reef instal-lation window. The

decorations highlight that Christmas in Sydney is about the beach, the light, starry nights and

not about snow!

A colourful hand stitched Turkish kilm acts as a back-drop to French Olive

jars and bowls

Taupe crockery. The colour highlights the food and is a twist on

traditional white.
