◦ What kind of industries have you worked in?

◦ do you have union experience?

Clarify reasons for moving jobs and any gaps or unusual findings in the resume.

If Not Qualified

If they are not qualified, let them know why and ask them if they know anybody else that would be interested.

If QUALIFIED

If they are qualified, present job opportunities to see if they are interested in the opening we are trying to fill. (After he is ok with MONEY, SHIFT and LOCATION – Share the company name)

You want to get his introduction out as soon as possible. Until you get them this introduction, they think that you are a telemarketer trying to sell them something

When the candidate learns you have a copy of their resume, they let their guard down. It’s important to let them know where you got their resume from so they are not spooked.

Always try to have a conversation with them when you get them on the phone.

If they are obviously distracted (crying baby, loud machines in background, etc.), you can offer to do the call at a later time.

Are you currently working at xxx? Why are you looking to make a move? (What have you been doing since getting laid off?)

• You want to find out what their current situation is. If they tell you that they were laid off, ask how many were laid off and if you can use that employer as a work reference. This will show the legitimacy of the lay off.

• Asking them about why they are looking to make a move is very important as that is their key motivation for their job hunt. It is the career wound we are trying to heal and will be useful when we get the job offer for them.

• Asking what they have been doing since lay off gives you a sense of how urgent the candidate is with their job search.

Can determine if current salary is in line with expectation.

• WHAT SHIFT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING? WHAT SHIFTS ARE YOU WILLING TO WORK?

You will also try to take what shift they are working this week and next week (if on rotations)

• HOW FAR IS YOUR COMMUTE TO YOUR CURRENT WORKPLACE? HOW FAR ARE YOU WILLING TO COMMUTE?

This is an important question

• (IF APPLICABLE) WHAT LICENSES DO YOU HAVE? WHAT YEAR DID YOU OBTAIN?

This is only applicable to trades people. Year obtained shows what kind of experience they have and also double checks legitimacy.

• WHAT IS YOUR HIGHEST LEVEL OF EDUCATION?

• WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT COMPANY DO AND WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES? –(You Can Discuss Relevant Companies)

Some openings require minimum high school graduation.

◦ WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT COMPANY DO AND WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES? – (CAN DISCUSS RELEVANT COMPANIES)

This will give you a better idea of what they are doing. Look at all relevant companies and determine responsibilities.

◦ (IF APPLICABLE) WHAT TYPE OF MACHINES AND PROCESSES HAVE YOU WORKED WITH?

Goes into greater detail in skill-set. If they have relevant machine experience that we can detail, it will help to better showcase the candidate.

◦ DID YOU SUPERVISE ANYBODY? IF SO, HOW MANY?

This is more relevant for supervisory openings. Only need to get the maximum number that they have had and where it was.

◦ WHAT KIND OF INDUSTRIES HAVE YOU WORKED IN?

Clients often want to see candidates from specific industries that are similar to theirs.

◦ DO YOU HAVE UNION EXPERIENCE?

Relevant for supervisory/management openings or when clients want to avoid getting union workers in.

CLARIFY REASONS FOR MOVING JOBS OR ANY GAPS OR UNUSUAL FINDINGS IN THE RESUME.

• Finding out why candidates moved jobs will help show you their true motivation.

• Fill in the blanks if there are gaps in employment timelines.

• If there are unusual moves, clarify why they made them. An example would be a supervisor stepping back and out of a supervisory role. Another example would be geographic location change of employment.

IF THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED, LET THEM KNOW WHY AND ASK THEM IF THEY KNOW ANYBODY ELSE

THAT WOULD BE INTERESTED.

Be honest with them. The candidates appreciate honesty. This is also your opportunity to network.

You can even ask them for people they know for other jobs that you are working. Candidates that

you have developed good rapport with will be more likely to offer this information.

IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED, PRESENT JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO SEE IF THEY ARE INTERESTED IN THE

OPENING WE ARE TRYING TO FILL.
