PURFLEET THAMES TERMINAL
INTRODUCTION
WHO ARE C.RO PORTS? WHAT WE DO PURPOSE OF THE EXHIBITION
1/
We would like to talk to you and we invite your views on our exciting plans for the future of the Purfleet Thames Terminal.
We have appointed a team to prepare planning applications that will be submitted to Thurrock Council for approval by November this year.
We are now preparing draft design proposals and would like your feedback at this early stage before they are finalised.
Our early ideas are presented in this exhibition and the team are on hand to answer any questions.
This isn’t your only chance to comment – the Council will consult on the proposals once the applications are submitted for a period of 21 days.
The Purfleet Thames Terminal operates as a roll-on/roll-off freight terminal (port) for the handling, storage and onward movement of trailers, containers, vehicles and general cargo.
Ships sail daily direct to and from Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.
The port also includes railways which bring and move goods from the site in container and car trains.
C.RO Ports operate Purfleet Thames Terminal, a roll-on/roll-off freight terminal in Purfleet.
The land is owned by Purfleet Real Estate Ltd who will be the Applicant on any future planning applications at the site

The application site includes the land where the Purfleet Thames Terminal operates today and a small number of other surrounding land parcels.
The site is currently accessed by road from two points on London Road, by water from the River Thames, and by rail.
The site is in an employment area and is therefore mainly surrounded by industrial uses but there are residential properties near the site on London Road.

THE FUTURE OF PURFLEET THAMES TERMINAL3/ What do we want to do in future?
We want Purfleet Thames Terminal to be the main focus of our operations on the Thames in future. To do this we need to make sure the site operates as safely and efficiently as possible.
We would like to construct new and improved access arrangements to the terminal and neighbouring businesses. This will include a new roundabout and bridge over the railway.
These access improvements will only be justified if we are able to grow our operations in Purfleet. This means we need to increase the site capacity by creating extra car storage and space for trailer and container transit.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
What are the benefits for the area?
Our future plans will make sure the existing 337 jobs stay in Purfleet.
The plans could create opportunities for up to 265 new jobs.
The new access arrangements will reduce lorry (HGV) movements on London Road and will reduce reliance on the level crossings.
The plans will allow us to create for a safer, more efficient and attractive environment around the site.
There will be increased safety, efficiency and consolidation of activity on terminal.

We are aware that the Purfleet Thames Terminal is not an isolated site – we strive to blend in our operations with Purfleet and the surroundings.
We recognise that neighbours are important and that they must be considered carefully, as shown on the plan.
We believe that the plans, if developed in the right way, will have many positive benefits.
Later in the exhibition we present our early ideas about how the proposals will benefit you.

THE PROPOSAL5/An overview of our proposals is provided on the plan.
There will be new multi-storey car parks to increase the site’s car storage capacity.
Existing areas of the Purfleet Thames Terminal will be rearranged and some new areas added to increase the capacity for trailers and containers.
These capacity improvements will enable us to construct a new roundabout taking traffic directly to the site from the Stonehouse Corner Roundabout rather than London Road.
London Road will be re-routed through the new roundabout.
We will also planning to construct an internal bridge link over the railway line. The access improvements will reduce reliance on level crossings and avoid issues with congestion on London Road.
Our plans are to construct the bridge and roundabout first.
Our other proposals will be phased over the next ten years.

IMPROVING LONDON ROAD6/LONDON ROAD - POTENTIAL ENHANCEMENTSWe recognise that the environment on London Road is currently
affected by the movement of lorries (HGVs).
The new access proposals will divert lorries from London Road directly into the site via a new roundabout, which will reduce HGV movements on London Road.
We propose to improve the appearance of London Road by upgrading the landscape and site boundary.

Jarrah Cottages are the nearest residential neighbours to the site.
Terminal bound heavy goods vehicles will all but disappear on London Road.
The bund, tree screening and change of ground level at the back of the cottages are designed to reduce disruption to residents from the proposals within the site.
There is a path along the River Thames which will be retained and safeguarded so that the community can continue to use it and which can later become part of a National Cycle Network Route 13.

IMPROVING VIEWS FROM PURFLEET CENTRE9/VIEW FROM PURFLEET CENTRE - BEFORE
VIEW FROM PURFLEET CENTRE - AFTER
The Purfleet Centre regeneration scheme lies to the west of our site.
A small area of land we own (known as the former Paper Mills) crosses into the Purfleet Centre scheme area.
Whilst this land is not suitable for residential development for safety reasons, it is essential to us for increasing the port capacity and enabling the access improvements.
Our design of the new parking deck will seek to improve views to the site from the west. It will therefore also benefit the future plans for Purfleet Centre and create a visual buffer between it and the fuel storage tanks.
We are committed to planting a zone of trees and vegetation that will make an attractive site boundary with ecology benefits.
