Purse Insert

©One fat quarter is enough for both fabric

pieces, or a fat eighth of 2 fabrics, or anyleftover fabric.

From fabric:Cut 1 – 19½”x9”Cut 1 – 19½”x8”

These sizes can be adjusted to fit whatever size you need for your purse, just measure the inside

of your purse.

Not all the pictures will match the words. When I came to the end I realized that the interfacing needs to be smaller than what I started with.

From Timetex or Peltex or some other stiff interfacing [if you don’t have the fusible interfacing, you will also need a fusible web, such as Wonder Under.]:Cut 1 – 18x4 ⅛”Cut 1 – 18x3⅝”

Fold both fabric pieces in half lenghtwise  with WST and crease. Place one long edge of the interfacing along the fold and leaving½” of the fabric along the short edges, and ⅜”along one long edge Fuse.

On one edge of both pieces

fold the ½” on the short side to the interfacing.

This should be the edge of

the interfacing along the fold of the fabric.

Fold both pieces in half,WST, and press.

Place the shorter piece RST on top of the larger piece, with the ½” side folds, and raw edges even.

Pin along the long raw edge, stitch with a ¼” seam, backstitching on both ends. You can use a serger for this seam, or overcast the edges.

Fold to place the seam on the inside.

Sew a line of stitvching through all layers to make whatever size and number of pockets you’d like.

I sewed 1¾” from the side with the folds, and 2¼” from the raw edge side. I try to get seams atthe middle, which will be the side of the purse.

Insert the raw edges into the end with the folded edges, between the folds of the larger piece.Push it in so that the edges of the interfacing meet, but don’t overlap. Pin and stitch. You can

just handstitch on both sides, or sew by machine. [I had to sew from both top and bottom, but that may be because I had the interfacing folded, instead of only going to the fold of the fabric

 pieces.]

I also sewed 1¼” up from the bottom on the 2 pockets where ends are tucked in. This makes good  pockets for lipstick.

Here is the one I’ve been using for quite some time. It’s well used, so it holds it shape when out ofthe purse. I also stitched on a chain with a swivel hook for a key.
