PUTAMEN CIRCUIT
INTRODUCTION:
• The principal pathway through basal ganglia for executing learned
pattern of movements• It takes inputs mainly from those parts of brain which are adjacent to the
primary motor cortex
LOCATION:
• It begin mainly in premotor and supplementary motor areas of motor
cortex as well as in primary somato - sensory areas of sensory cortex

FUNCTION:
• The main function of the putamen is to regulate movements and
influence various types of learning.
• The putamen also plays a role in degenerative neurological disorders,
such as Parkinson's disease.
• It works in conjunction to control many types of motor skills.

CAUDATE CIRCUIT
INTRODUCTION: • Caudate neucleus is actually the cognitive contorl of motor activity
• It works with the putamen to receive the input from association area of brain (cerebral cortex)
LOCATION:
•
It extends in all lobes of cerebrum starting anteriorly in frontal lobe• Then passing posteriorly through the parietal and occipital lobes, and
finally curving forward again like a letter “c” into temporal lobes.

CAUDATE CIRCUIT
FUNCTION:
• It is considered the "entrance" to the basal ganglia.
• Caudate nucleus plays a major role in cognitive control of motor activity.
• Cognitive control of motor activity determines which patterns of
movement will be used together, and in what sequence to axhieve a
complex goal.

Putamen Circuit:When any portion of this circuit is damaged or blocked certain pattern
of learned movements become severely abnormal.
Caudate Circuit:When any portion of this circuit is damaged or blocked thinking
processes become severely abnormal.
