Water supply in remote off-grid areas
SOLAR23 supplies water procurement systems to remote areas with little or no access to water and electricity for the following applications:
Drinking water in villages, schools, hospitals, etc.
Agricultural irrigation and watering of livestock in farms and ranches
According local water resource availabilities small, medium and large water pumping system types based on solar and wind power are offered:
GRUNDFOS SQFlex Pump series: small to medium sized water pumping systems powered by solar and/or wind systems combined with back-up systems (batteries or diesel generators)
GRUNDFOS SP Pump series: medium to large sized water pumping systems powered by solar, combinable with back-up systems (diesel generators)

Comparing PV pumping systems (PVPS) up to 10 kW in the sun-belt
…to the POWER GRID
If the power grid is at the site, PVPS is clearly not competitive at current prices.
If the power grid is at a distance of more than 1 km, PVPS is competitive in the short term.
…to a DIESEL GENERATOR
If the power grid is no option (too far away), then a diesel generator would be cheaper only in the beginning.
However, the ‚break-even‘ of PVPS will be reached after a period of approx. 5 years.
The above comparison results will always depend on local solar irradiation, borehole and water requirements.

General statements concerning PV pumping systems (PVPS)
1. Small PV pumping systems of 1-2 kW in rural African environments are viable without doubt.
2. Medium sized PV pumping systems of 5-15 kW reach ‚break-even‘ compared to diesel generators after just a few years.
3. Large PV pumping of 20-50 kW may not be viable in the short/medium term, but its environmental advantages are still convincing.
4. However, there is demand for large PV pumping systems 20 kW+ due to their proven reliability.

Benefits solar water pumping systems
Reliable power supply from the sun against:
Extreme volatility of fossil fuel prices, thus reducing financial risks Power grid instabilities, thus reducing technical risks from power outages Fuel delivery interruptions caused by rainy seasons or politics, thus reducing
natural and political risks Climatic risks: PV pumping systems are designed for 24h/7 days a week operation
in all climatic conditions
No moving parts, thus low maintenance requirements
Drastic reduction of site supply logistics (fuel transports & maintenance)
Significant environmental advantages: Zero air pollution: operation without exhaust & greenhouse gases Zero noise pollution: silent operation compared to diesel generators Zero soil & water contamination: No fuel or oil leakages and spills
Very long operation life time >20 years with high-quality components

BONUS: GRUNDFOS Lifelink water solutions
At least 800 million people lack access to clean water in the developing world and many water projects fail to produce water soon after installation. Why ?
Water service providers struggle with challenges such as: Access to service
Ability to collect and manage revenue to reduce non-revenue water
Lack of transparency and accountability
Poor capacity to expand the water service infrastructure
GRUNDFOS Lifelink is a solution that goes beyond the pumping and purification system AQtap is an automatic, cloud connected water dispenser that can be installed at
any water point using smart cards for loading water credits and paying with them.
Each AQtap is connected to a Water Management System which allows water service providers to manage all transactions and monitor their water supply infrastructure which can be expanded in modular steps
