You must read and understand the precautions and guide-lines in Service Information, Function Group 20, "EngineSafety Practices" before performing this procedure. If youare not properly trained and certified in this procedure, askyour supervisor for training before you perform it.

Removal1Apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in neutral.

2Remove all cables from ground (negative) battery terminalsto prevent personal injury from electrical shock.

3Remove inner splash guard as an assembly.

Note: Some models may be equipped with fender extenders,attached to the inner splash guard. Remove these as anassembly.

4Loosen the clamps and remove the crankcase ventilation in-let coupling hose.

5Remove the bolts mounting the upper and lower wiring har-ness P-clamps to the ECM housing.

6Push the connector lock inward and rotate outward to discon-nect both the wiring harnesses from the ECM.

7Remove the ECM cooling plate bolts.

8Disconnect the oil supply line from the crankcase ventilationseparator. Move the line and secure it out of the way of theECM.

9Pull the cooling plate back away from the ECM and secure itout of the way.

10Remove the mounting bolts and remove the ECM from theengine block.

InstallationNote:Make sure that the ECM contact surface is free of dirt.If the ECM is painted in the region contacting the coil, removethe paint to allow the most efficient cooling.

1Place the ECM in position on the engine block and install themounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to specification.Refer to Specifications in Group 20.

Note:Make sure that rubber isolators are correctly installedand that the ground strap is grounded to the engine block.

2Install the fuel cooling plate to the ECM and tighten themounting bolts to specification.

3Lubricate with clean engine oil and install a new O-ring onthe crankcase ventilation separator oil line. Connect the oilline and tighten securely.

4Carefully connect the upper and lower wiring harnesses tothe ECM. Verify that connectors are locked in position.

5Install the bolts mounting the wiring harness P-clamps to theECM.

6Install the crankcase ventilation inlet coupling hose and tight-en the clamp securely.

7Install the inner splash guard as an assembly.

8Install all previously removed cables to the ground (negative)battery terminals.

9Connect VCADS Pro to the diagnostic connector and pro-gram the ECM (if not yet programmed).

10Start the engine and check that there are no diagnostic trou-ble codes (DTC).

11Perform a Service Regeneration due to filter regeneration in-formation lost when the ECM is replaced.
