    DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: TRASH FACTS

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    Within Marion County, trash is either collected viaDPW-issued 96 gallon carts by automated trucks orcollected by hand rom your can. The 96 gallon cartsare available in several areas o the city, and eacheligible residential unit is issued one cart.

    Trash is collected ve days a week between 7 a.m. and5 p.m. On your collection day, be sure to place your

    trash at the curb or in the alley beore 7 a.m. to ensureproper pickup.

    I your home is serviced by Department o PublicWorks (DPW) crews, heavy trash is collected on aspecic day each month. I your home is serviced bya private contractor, heavy trash can be placed by thecurb once a month on any o your regular trash days.

    I you have questions or concerns about your weeklytrash or heavy trash collection, please contact theMayors Action Center online or call (317) 327-4622.

    ACCEPTABLE ITEMS/HEAVY TRASH: Regularresidentialwaste:foodwaste,paper,bottles,

    metal cans, plastics, cloth, toys, leaves, grass andtires without rims

    Shrubberycuttings,smalllimbs,sticksandcarpetpieces (tied in bundles no larger than 3 eet. by 3 eet)

    Corrugatedcontainersandcardboardboxes(fattened, emptied and tied in bundles)

    Mattresses

    Tireswithrims

    Appliances(withoutFreon-gasrefrigerant):stoves,water heaters and water soteners

    Furniture:couches,chairs,desksandtables

    Lawnmowers(mustbedrainedofalloilandgas)

    Disassembledbicyclesandswingsets

    UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS :

    Televisions,stereosystems,computers(laptopordesk models), hard drives, monitors and printers

    Trees,largelimbs(morethan2inchesindiameter)or stumps

    Brushandvegetationfromcontractorcleanings,commercial tree trimmers or lawn services

    Sod,lldirtandtrashfromcontractorcleaningsandother materials requiring special handling

    Explosives;pathologicalandbiologicalwaste;radioactivematerial;andashesandsand

    Septic,humanandanimalwastes(minimalamounts, such as diapers and kitty litter, sealed inbags, are acceptable)

    Automotiveparts:engines,rearends,springs,enders and seats

    Farmequipment,marinevesselsandanyother

    major parts thereo

    Constructionanddemolitiondebrisordiscardedbuilding materials

    Loosetrashthatisfrozentothegroundorcontainer

    I unacceptable items are let or trash pickup, DPWcrews will leave an inormational tag that will notiyyou on how to meet the pickup requirements.
