It’s the time of year to ring out the old, and ring in the new.

Look at 2009 – we’re now in 72 countries. We enhanced our already proven Marketing Plan to bring financial rewards to more of our Independent Distributors. We have our own U.S. manufacturing facility, which is part of our commitment to providing the highest standards in quality control and the very best science-based nutrition products.

This year, in each issue of Today magazine, we’ll reflect on Herbalife’s three decades, culminating in our vision for the next 10 years. This issue focuses on our first decade in business – the 1980s. It was a time of dreaming for the future, creating a foundation for success and overcoming early challenges.

Now, looking ahead – our 30th anniversary year will be incredible. In February, our annual Mark Hughes Day honors two legacies from Mark: Herbalife and the Herbalife Family Foundation. Then it’s on to our 30th Anniversary Leadership Summit in March, where we will launch our Herbalife Decade and unveil success strategies for Herbalife’s future. And finally, we’ll celebrate at the long-awaited 30th Anniversary Vacation on beautiful Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

Mark perfectly summed things up when he said, “We have our whole future ahead of us, and we’re just getting started.”

In your latest issue of Today, the article on the Million Pound Mission [“Big Losers Become Big Winners”] brought up emotional memories. My Aunt Derinda always had trouble with obesity. In fact, she had gastric bypass surgery three times. During her third operation, I got a call to immediately go to the hospital. There, my aunt told me the doctors found cancer during her surgery. On February 1, 2010, we celebrate Mark Hughes Day around the world. This year we also celebrate three decades of helping people lead healthy, active lives through good nutrition, as well as offering our proven business opportunity to those seeking financial freedom. About 20 years before the general public starts talking about the benefits of Omega-3s, Herbalifeline® is introduced. Our global expansion goes “down under” as we open in the Australian market.

Jim Rohn teams up with Herbalife in a relationship that blossoms over the next two decades, as he inspires and motivates millions of Herbalife Independent Distributors around the world. We go public, trading on the NASDAQ for the next 5-plus years. It will be another 10 years

before the Founder’s Circle is created; meanwhile, the number of Independent Distributors continues to grow, and we’re on track to change the lives of millions of people around the world.

New Zealand becomes our fifth market. Who could imagine that 20 years later Herbalife’s retail sales will reach its highest ever at $3.8 billion?

Where would Nutrition Clubs be if Mexico hadn’t become our seventh market in 1989? Israel and Spain also open as our first decade comes to a close – a decade that saw unfaltering commitment by Mark and our Distributors as they took our company and its mission around the world, overcoming fear and doubt to prosper in ways that Mark may never have imagined.

Herbalife goes to Hollywood, with Mark appearing on “The Merv Griffin Show,” and Donny and Marie Osmond, as well as Milton Berle, entertaining at events. These stars are among the first of many top entertainers who will perform for our Distributors in coming years. Retail sales of $426 million are the highest of the decade. Distributors march on Washington, D.C., to support Mark as he speaks about the products and the company before the U.S. Senate.

Time frame and agenda. By establishing when and how many hours you’ll work on the business, and marking these in a calendar, you’re more likely to get the results you want within the period of time you’ve set.

Create a list of prospects. Contact your family, friends and acquaintances. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, ask yourself why. Once you know what’s stopping you, you can focus on the solution. Are you using the products?Remember, you create your own success

story by using the products. This will give you all the motivation and confidence you need to talk about Herbalife. MARY ELIZABETH FUSCO, stood in the emergency room of her local hospital. As the doctor held up an X-ray, Mary saw where her daughter Katie had broken her hand. Twice in

one month Mary found herself looking at an X-ray of one of her daughters. “How could two of my girls both get broken bones?” Mary asked herself. “What did I do to deserve this?” Before Katie’s injury, Mary’s youngest daughter Brooke shattered both her heels and broke an ankle. Always looking for the good in a bad situation, Mary thought half-jokingly, “This family needs more calcium.” And then with typical resilience, Mary worked

her Distributorship without a hint of slowing down, making each and every training call – some from home and some from the hospital.

Six years earlier, Mary and her husband had divorced. But she had a Plan-B: find another guy to take care of her. But after a year, Mary realized she needed a real plan, not some pie-in-the-sky dream. No one was going to rescue her. She’d have to change her attitude, take action and make enough money to care of herself and her four daughters.

Life-Defining

“It’s funny what life puts in front of you,” says Mary, “because around that same time, my friend Carry lost a lot of weight, so I asked her how she did it. I’d heard of Herbalife, but never really knew much about it.” With the help of the products, Mary dropped 20 pounds, which led her to become an Herbalife Independent Distributor. She told people her story and helped them reach their health goals through the products. Mary not only discovered a new Plan-B, she thrived on it.

After becoming a Supervisor, she moved up the Marketing Plan thanks to her commitment and effort. Helping other women on her team succeed financially made Mary proud of herself and her downline. As time went on, her team increased in size and she motivated them with her “can-do attitude.” Her Distributors witnessed how she maintained a positive spirit in spite of adversity. Making Global Expansion Team (GET) in just 10 months, as Mary did, takes commitment. Making it when things are crashing all around takes faith.

Mary had to do all she could to keep her can-do attitude alive. It was between her daughters’ emergency room visits that she found her home flooded, things destroyed and the carpet ruined. “Seeing me reach GET during such a crazy time turned out to be a wonderful lesson for my girls,” explains Mary. “They saw that when you set clear goals and work hard to accomplish them, nothing can stand in your way!” With three of her daughters now Distributors and her business booming, Mary proves you can achieve anything with Herbalife.*†

THE LIGHT TURNED RED, and Jenny Davis stopped the car. In the backseat was her 87-year-old father. They were on their way home from a visit with his doctor. As the light remained red,

she reminisced about all the wonderful moments she’d shared with her dad – the birthdays, family occasions and all the times her dad was there in times of need.

Although it’s never easy to take care of one’s aging parents, Jenny took comfort in knowing that her decision to become a Herbalife Independent Distributor now gave her the opportunity to be there for her dad in his time of need.

The light turned green. Jenny eased on the gas and spoke to her father: “Hey, Dad, how are you feeling?” “I’m OK,” he replied. “Well, we’ll be home soon,” she assured him. “We just have one stop to make.”

Jenny took a right turn onto a side street and pulled over in front of a house. Jenny turned to her father and said, “I’ll just be a minute. I’m only going to the front door.” Jenny got out of the car with a box. She turned back to look at her father, smiled and waved. Jenny knocked on the door. A woman came out, Jenny handed the box of Herbalife® products to her customer, chatted briefly and then ran back to the car. “We’re going home now, Dad,” Jenny said. “How about meatloaf for lunch?” Jenny put the car in gear and smiled to herself. Knowing she could look after her father and take care of a customer made her happy.

Jenny cared for father until he passed away at age 90, and today she looks after her 91-year-old mom. Herbalife gave Jenny the opportunity run a business while staying involved with her entire family. It also gave her the financial freedom to afford private school for Bethany and to travel the world. Bethany has since grown up and has three kids of her own. Now Jenny looks after her grandchildren three days a week. “It’s time I wouldn’t trade for anything,” says Jenny. “Looking after my elderly parents while managing my Herbalife business hasn’t always been easy, but imagine if I was working for someone else? ON AUGUST 24, 1997, the ballroom at the Scanticon Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey, was filled to capacity: nearly 500 people celebrating completion of their Success

Training Seminar (STS).

Suddenly someone tapped Paul Osimo on the shoulder – it was his friend Michelle. “Would you come with me?” she asked. Paul followed her out of the ballroom; the doors shut behind them but the sound of the crowd and music spilled into the hallway. She told Paul that his wife Pat was on the phone and needed to speak with him. They entered an office where Paul took the call. He heard Pat’s voice on the other end: “I don’t know how to tell you this…but Danny’s dead.” Two days of elation from the STS drained from Paul’s body. “It can’t be…it just can’t be,” Paul told his wife. There was nothing more unimaginable than losing his 18-year-old son Daniel.

Michelle quietly drove Paul back home. As an Herbalife Independent Distributor, Michelle knew to treat people with respect. She also knew that sometimes support involves just letting them be – that you needn’t try to make them feel better, but just let them know you’re there.

Paul learned that Daniel had died of an allergic reaction. After the funeral, Paul wasn’t ready to jump back in and grow his Herbalife business. But he stayed connected with his Herbalife family, continued to receive royalty payments and took care of all the customers he had.

In the past, Paul’s business had given him the time to engage in charitable works through the Rotary Club. In fact, Paul had put his bachelor’s degree in biology and his master’s in international studies to use by taking part in the Rotary Club’s environmental mission to the Soviet Union to study the effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Paul was used to getting involved in things bigger than himself, and now, after the death of his son, he felt the need to do so more than ever.

Paul resumed his work with the Rotary Club, going on missions to Africa and Asia, where he saw how famine and disease took children away from their parents. The experience helped Paul put his own life in perspective.

Paul returned to the United States and became a partner in a nano technology business, hoping to fulfill a childhood dream of benefiting mankind through science. But two years later, their primary investor pulled out and the company filed for bankruptcy. No longer willing to depend on startups and venture capital groups, Paul was ready to be his own boss and get back into Herbalife full time.

He thought about meeting Mark Hughes years before, and how they considered one another kindred spirits. Paul had heard him speak of the difference Distributors can make in people’s lives with good nutrition and financial opportunity, and how Herbalife demonstrates that people of different cultures, religious backgrounds and nationalities can come together for a common purpose.

Today, Paul and his wife Pat are opening a Nutrition Club, and have achieved GET status. They’re now building their business, and their royalties are steadily growing. Before Tim Hendricks and Christal Hendricks met, he served as a U.S. Marine and she was a math teacher and basketball coach. Walking out of their favorite Vietnamese restaurant, Amber and Jason Wick ran into Craig, an acquaintance from their old job whom they hadn’t seen in years. They greeted one another, happy to meet again. Jason asked, “How are things at work?” Craig looked down at the ground as his smile faded. Quietly he told them about the last round of layoffs. Then his face brightened as he noticed something different about them. “You guys look great, he said. “What are you doing now?” “Herbalife!” the couple answered.

Kathleen Caldwell’s retirement went down the drain after the recent stock market collapse. “My husband and I worked our entire lives, putting money into our retirement fund,” says Kathleen, who had worked for 20 years as an accountant at a large corporation.

Due to the economy, they found themselves unable to retire within seven or eight years as planned. Then Kathleen saw an Herbalife ad, ordered an International Business Pack and became a Distributor.

“Eventual ly, I was able to quit my old job and devote myself ful l t ime to my business,” says Kathleen. “Now I can see my grandchi ldren at school events, travel and sti l l work my business.”
