Main character The main character in our film sequence is Megi who is the victim. In this video she represents herself in

two different forms. One is shown through her flashbacks where she is ordinary school girl. Like normal teenage girls she is getting ready for school, has a phone her whilst she is walking to school, this shows she cares about how she looks and likes to socialise which is shown through her laughing whilst she is in the phone. When Megi is getting ready she looks into the camera like she has power over herself this represents her strong personality. However, when she is in the basement she is represented as vulnerable and helpless as she is in under the control of her abuser. This contrasts with how she is represented in the flashbacks. The differentiation in these representations allow the audience to distinguish between the flashbacks and the basement sequences.

Megi in her flashback represented as bubbly and in control.Megi in basement scene represented as helpless, innocent and scared

Both of these representations of Megi reflect her character profile.

Existing films and representations

The Exorcist

The Exorcist is a horror, mystery thriller which is the same genre as our film.

This film relates to the narrative of our opening film sequence because it is about a teenager who gets possessed by a mysterious entity.

In the image you can see that the girl is represented as helpless and vulnerable because the man has tied her a bed and she cannot escape. Similarly the girl Lucy in our film is tied to a chair where she is under the control of the abuser.

Although I cannot see the girl properly you can see that her hair is out, similarly in our video Lucy has her hair out this represents their personalities as being overt.

Audience This sequence targets an audience who feel in control at times and for an audience who feel they are

controlled at times I their life. The main target audience of this film would be young youth aged between 15-25 because they are more fascinated by horror movies because they get thrill out of it. Also sometimes young youth feel they are in control of their lives while at other times they may feel they are constrained by their family or friends, this is because they have entered a phase where they are young but getting older at the same time so they are confused about how to organise their lives.

Audience costume representation

In the opening sequence Megi is wearing a white-shirt, blazer and formal black trousers. This shows she is wearing her school uniform, representing her as a young school girl. The fact that she is wearing her school uniform also means that school youth is also more likely watch this film because it represents someone of their age range. One of the flashbacks, show Megi sorting her hair out, when you look at her in the basement scene, you can see that her hair is scruffy but it is still in shape this reflects the representation of girls who like to pamper themselves up and look perfect all the time. Below is an image which shows who the main target audience is and how they are most likely to dress up.

Audience Questionnaire

The first question gave me an insight to how the audience and representations in my opening sequence relate. The second question allowed me to relate the viewers dress sense to that of Lucy’s. The second question told me whether or not the viewers personality relates to Lucy. The third question allowed me to see similarities and differences between the viewers and Lucy’s personality. These three questions allowed me to build on my study of who the target audience is for my product based on the representation shown. The last question provides me additional information about the viewer so I could relate any representations I did not think of.
