External UHF Antennas

The Q300 UHF read/write head can be connected to a maximum of four different external antennas for detecting tags. The advantage is that individual applications have different requirements for the detection range and field characteristics of antennas. This means an in/outbound solution in a distribution center can look different from the production of individual products.

Passive UHF RFID antennas for different applications

Logistics

For logistics processes to run smoothly, incoming and outgoing goods must be detected shortly before they are unload-ed from or loaded onto the truck. The pre-programmable multiplex operating concept of the Q300 read/write head responds to the antennas alternately to ensure rapid detection of all tags on the pallets. The tags are reliably detected, even when the truck passes through at high speed and regardless of the position and distance of the tags in relation to the antennas. These advan-tages make it possible to use the large antennas that are often associated with logistics applications. These antennas generally benefit from high reading ranges as well as a small opening angle, allowing them to provide a concentrat-ed field distribution and thus focus on detecting the tags on the pallet.

Detection of individual production goods on a conveyor belt

Production

Small antennas are ideal for detecting individual products or goods during production. These antennas work well when mounted on conveyor belts as they do not require much space. These antennas are often used for single-tag applications with shorter ranges than those associated with logistics applica-tions (short-range or mid-range). The distance between the tag and the an-tenna is often quite short in single-tag applications (e.g. less than 1 m). A low radiated power is therefore sufficient to reliably detect the tag.
