Q4: HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA

TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING

AND EVALUATION STAGES?

Lara Lawal

My AS technological knowledge and skills have been enhanced throughout my A2 production. I have used more technology, in more creative ways. Also, I now have a wider understanding on how the use of technology can implement theory into a product. Generally the technology used was of a higher quality and expectation than in AS. iMac; an example of high-tech devices used in both years

RESEARCH A2 has taught me professional mannerism while researching media, whereas AS was more laid back. I know more useful search keywords, website sources, etc.

Last year on blogger I recorded class information, but not much analysis.

Last year on YouTube I did not use many of my own examples and thinking.

This year I researched all types of music through channels.I used the Sky TV list for

the ‘Music Channels’ This was to show that I have done independent research to gain substantial knowledge on what music channels there are. From this research, I noted different keywords surrounding the channels e.g. genre types and/or a semantic field such as ‘Bliss, Magic, Heart’. This helped me to decipher the aims of various music channels and analyse them in detail on Blogger. Upon actually watching Sky music channels, I identified a watershed, censorship, unrepresentativeness of genres and sister channels. These were also included in the post.

This year, YouTube has been used to study media. The only recital done was of my own work in the conclusion. The advantage of using YouTube in A2 was coming across an array of genres, whereas last year we were assigned Thriller. This has given us a good insight into the music industry as a whole as opposed to restrictions on the film industry.

This year, Blogger has been used to truly explore the content of my posts and offer new ideas on the examples within. Music videos were analysed for their deeper aspects, such as application of theory/challenge towards theory. One of my examples in the ‘Mulvey’s Male Gaze’ post was Lily Allen’s Hard Out Here, which used the Male Gaze to criticise why it exists. From this I drew different ideas for my ‘Initial Idea’ post.

Last year I merely used Excel to create visual graphs.

PLANNING Because of the higher level of research I have planned in more depth than during AS. New theory has been put into each planning stage.
