Attracting the Audience

I have used the characters in particular to attract my target audience: The characters are all female as this is the gender as my film is

slightly more female-orientated.

The characters are designed to help the audience to identify and connect easily. For instance, Auntie Sarah and Jessica (the mother) are representatives of the target audience itself as they are both female middle class Brits that are supposed to be in their twenties, which falls into the target audience age range of 18-35.

The way the story is shown is also a way in which I have attempted to attract my target audience. The film is deliberately slow paced in order to create a sense of intrigue and mystery to go alongside the drama genre. Mystery films and films with enigmas are ones that I have found are quite popular with my target audience.

Mise en Scene I have used natural lighting throughout as this helps to

create the sense of realism and brings the audience into the characters world more easily.

Similarly, I have had the actors dress in fairly everyday clothing, but with some sort of relation to their character, like the red on the mother to add a sense of danger, and black to the aunt to introduce a sense of sophistication. I think that this appeals to the latter half of the target audience, as she is almost a representative of them.

Furthermore, the location choice is deliberate. I felt that filming in a regular home would help connect with the audience, as it may be a reflection of their own homes, which will help to create verisimilitude.

The film conforms to the restrictions of a 12 rated film as many dramas have this rating, and this helps to attract the right range of people as the film would clearly be serious, but obviously lacking in sex, gore and swearing.

Also I have included names of actors who are known for acting in drama films and TV shows. And so when the audience sees these names, they will hopefully relate the typical style of film and TV to this one and will appeal to and attract my target audience. The actors I have used are; Paddy Considine, Allen Leech

and Andrew Scott.

Also I have used 2 producers who have worked mainly on BBC dramas and similar projects; Sue Vertue and Susie Liggat.
