Cover Masthead fontI got my masthead font from a website called fontspace.com. I searched for fonts until I fount the font which I felt was best suited for the magazine of which I was producing.

At this point I was also able to chose the colour of the font (I chose pink as it worked with the house style of my magazine and is a colour which my target group stereotypically like).

When I found this font, I then print screened it which then enabled me to paste the font onto a word document. I was then able to crop and size the font to how I felt it looked best on my cover.

Cover lineI produced this particular cover line on a word document.I started by clicking insert, then shapes and then I clicked on the circle shape.Once I had done this I chose a colour for the circle (I chose pink as it suited the house style of the magazine).

I then placed the circle where I felt it looked best on the cover page and inserted a textbox so I could write the cover line.I was then able to chose the fonts, size and colours of the text. (I chose these particular colours, sizes and fonts as they would be eye catching and appealing to the target audience).

Cover- how this made my cover better? I feel that by using technology to make my masthead it improved my magazine cover as I was able to find a font which would be appealing to my target audience. I did research on my target audience to find out what fonts they find most appealing by using fontspace.com I was able to search effectively to find the best font for my magazine which would be conventional and eye-catching. This technology also enabled me to find the most suitable size and colour, again this would help the magazine attract the target audience but it also enabled the me to create a house style for my magazine and have the most suitable mode of address. I used word to apply the mast head, I feel this was good as it allowed me to crop the font and edit the font to be even more conventional. I used word to create my cover line, the reasoning for this is because I new I would be able to find a font, shape and colours which would be conventional for the genre of the magazine. I was able to insert a circle shape and make it a conventional pink colour which signifies happiness which is appealing to the target audience, demonstrating also the mode of address. Also by using this colour I was able to continue following the house style of the magazine. By using word I was also able to find the correct font, size and colour of font which would appeal to the target audience and be conventional for the genre of the magazine. Which therefore means it is eye-catching and improved my magazine by ensuring it was conventional and appealing to the correct audience.

Contents Editors letterTo start my editors letter on a word document I went, insert, shapes and clicked on a square shape. I then re-sized the square to the size I wanted it.

I then chose the colour purple for the box, I chose purple as it fitted in with the house style.

I then added a text box on the shape and wrote the text.

Finally I chose the colour, size and font which I felt would be most appealing to the target audience based on my audience research. (Purple background and white font which I felt would be good to use through the research I carried out on my target audience.

On the coverTo create my on the cover section of the contents I print screened, copied and pasted the image of my cover.I then cropped the image and re-sized the image so it would fit on the contents page.

Once I had done this I numbered it by (on a word document) clicking insert, shapes and then the circle shape. I then made the shape the size I wanted and copied and pasted the shape another 5 times; to leave me with 6 circles), I also made the colour black by clicking ‘fill’ and then the colour black.I then got 6 arrows by doing the same. (insert, shapes and then clicking the arrow shape)

I then placed the circles and arrows where I wanted them on the contents page.

I then added the page numbers onto the circles by inserting a text box over the circles and writing a number.

I then changed the font so it was appealing to the target audience.

Contents- how this made my cover better?

To make the editors letter I used word, I used because I was able to insert the correct shape which would be needed, find the colour to make the editors letter conventional and find a conventional font with conventional colours and sizes. I chose purple for the background colour of the editors letter as this is conventional therefore appealing to the target audience and also follows the house style. I used difference sizes for the fonts which is conventional as it helps differentiate between the most important parts of the text and the not so important parts, this is conventional as the important parts will be eye-catching and influence the readers to read the rest of the editors letter. This demonstrates that by creating an editors letter my magazine contents page was improved as it become more conventional and more appealing to the target audience. This is an informal magazine and editors letters are usually formal as they provide information, however by using word I was able to find the correct colours and fonts to make the editors letter appealing to the readers.I created the ‘on the cover’ section again by using word, I felt word was best for this as I would be able to move the shapes around and also crop the front cover image. By using word I was able to make this section more conventional as word provided the shapes of which I would need to use (circles and arrows). This enabled my to attract the target audience as it was a visual way of providing them with information as it is a informal magazine. This also enabled me to make my front cover more conventional as it is very common for this genre of magazine to have and on the cover section which I was able to create through using word.

Double page spread

Main image I edited the main image using Photoshop.

I used the eraser tool on Photoshop to edited out the background of the image.

Once I had done this I then saved the image onto my files to enable me to put the image on the double page spread of the magazine.I then copied and pasted the image onto my double page spread and re-sized it to fit.

Text To create the text on the double page spread I inserted a text box on publisher and then wrote the text inside.

I then changed the font colours, size and style to appeal to the target audience and fit in with the house style.

I made the questions a different colour to the answers as I felt this looked best and would appeal to the target audience.

Double page spread- how these technologies helped my improve my double page spread.

I edited the main image on the double page spread on Photoshop, I felt this was a good programme to use as it enabled me to edit the image in a way which would make the image more conventional. On Photoshop I edited out the background of the image, this then made the image background white which is more conventional as the background was much lighter. By having a lighter background it would make the image more appealing to the audience as light colours connote things the target audience stereotypically like. Also by making the background white it meant that the background contrasted well which the costume as there is white in the costume which would help attract the target audience as this creates a mode of address for the double page spread. I made the double page spread on publisher, I used publisher as it enabled me to place the image in a conventional place and allowed me to re-size the image. As it was the main image I was able to make the image large so it was eye-catching for the target audience. I also used publisher to created the text for the double page spread, I felt this was the best programme as I would be able to find the fonts and colours which were conventional and appealing to the audience and publisher would also allow me to edit and move the text as and when I needed to. This enabled the magazine to attract the target audience as I could use conventional fonts and colours, I made the questions blue as it is an informal magazine and having all of the writing black may have came across as formal which would have set the wrong mode of address. This demonstrates how publisher therefore enabled me to make the double page spread appeal to the target audience and also be conventional as well as creating a house style and mode of address.
