Kuwait Petroleum International Lubricants (KPIL)

KPIL is a division of KPI, the international marketing and refiningarm of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. KPI coordinates thesales of all petroleum based products through an organisation thatcomprises of two refineries, a research & development facility and over5,000 retail outlets. KPI has 5,000 employees, sales exceeding75 million litres a day and a net turnover of $10 billion a year.

Most petroleum products are derived from crude oil which as anatural material has a tendency to vary in type and quality depending onits source.

Kuwait Export Crude is however unique, its consistency and superiorquality make it the perfect feed-stock for refining high quality base oilsand other petroleum derivatives.

With complete control of our raw materials we can guarantee aconsistency of product quality matched by no other company such that ourcustomers can have complete confidence in the performance of ourproducts now and in the future.

Kuwait Export Crude

Our European refinery in the Netherlands processes 4 million tons ofcrude oil every year. The base oils, process oils and waxes it produces arehydro-finished, a unique process that removes any remaining impuritiesrendering them clear, pure and very oxidation stable.

Ultimately therefore it is our customers who benefit. Oxidationstability engenders Q8 products with a superior performance thatextends the life of the components they protect, whilst the colour,biodegradability or low-hazard status offers customers theopportunity to reduce costs and gain a competitive edge.

Kuwait Petroleum Europoort

We operate four blending plants in Europe, strategically locatedbetween Scandinavia and the Mediterranean so that regardless ofwhere our customers operate we have a facility close enough tosatisfy demand. Testimony to our commitment to product quality isthat all the plants have achieved QS or ISO accreditation.

Globally we continue to develop strategic partnerships as we expandour international business interests.

The underlying strength of KPI and KPIL is our parent company theKuwait Petroleum Corporation. As one of the worlds largest oilproducers KPC’s reserves are forecast to last another 190 years atcurrent rates of consumption.

Types of lubricant Viscosity

Mineral OilMineral base oil results from the distillation and refining of crude oil. Theproperties and quality of a mineral oil largely depend on the quality of thecrude oil from which they are refined and on the refining process itself. KuwaitExport Crude (Q8Oils own crude) is recognised as the highestquality base oil crude in the world.

The mineral oil produced from vacuum distillation consists of hydrocarbonswith traces of sulphur, oxygen and nitrogen. The distillation fraction isfurther purified by extraction and by separation of the waxes (de-waxing givesa lower pour point). In the case of Q8 base oils, the purification process isfurther enhanced by Q8 hydro-finishing, a unique process that uses contactwith hydrogen at high pressure and temperature to give base oils that arepure, light in colour and very oxidation stable when compared with othermineral oils.

Synthetic OilThe properties of synthetic oil are determined by their manufacturing process,of which there are several. Synthetic oils are free of impurities and generallyhave a higher viscosity index and better oxidation stability than mineral baseoils, meaning that they perform better in service and can last longer. However,this quality and performance benefit comes at a much higher price.

Synthetic BasedSynthetic based actually refers to the finished lubricant itself and is acombination of mineral and synthetic base oils. Synthetic based products offersome of the performance advantages of synthetic base oil, but at a lower cost

Lubricant base oils come in three main types: mineral, synthetic or‘synthetic based’. These base oils are blended with additives and thecombination determines the type, quality and properties of thefinished lubricant.

Is the measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. The common metric unit ofabsolute viscosity is the poise, which is defined as the force required to move afluid surface of one square centimeter in area, past a parallel point at a speedof one centimeter per second, with the surfaces separated by a fluid film onecentimeter thick. In addition to kinematic viscosity, there are other methodsfor determining viscosity, including Saybolt Universal Viscosity (SUV), SayboltFurol viscosity, Engler viscosity, and Redwood viscosity. Since viscosity variesinversely with temperature, the value must always be reported at thetemperature at which it is tested.

These are a range of water displacement fluids that deposit a rust preventing soft waxy film on to treated surfaces. They are very effective anti-rust treatments for all wet parts and damp conditions, and have been made easy to apply by the addition of a solvent to the formulation. The formulations also include powerful rust corrosion inhibitors and film strength improvers. As used from the drum these products have low surface tension and viscosity, and a strong attraction to metal surfaces. They therefore spread rapidly to displace all water and completely cover all complex shapes, inside blind holes and even penetrate porous components. After the solvent has evaporated, a protective soft waxy film remains clinging to the surface protecting them from further water and rust. The protective film is self healing in the event of scratches or scrapes.

Contram NBF-21 Contram NBF-21 is a chemical designed to increase the useful life of water based wiredrawing lubricant in service by killing the all bacteria, fungi and yeasts present and thensterilising the system. Contram NBF-21 B keeps all types of wire drawing emulsions in good condition thereby eliminating problems with corrosion of machine parts caused by fluid degradation and avoiding unpleasant odours, growths and slimes.

Q8 Brytoklean TR A medium duty liquid concentrate containing a blend of alkali builders, sequestrants,corrosion inhibitors and biodegradable surfactants that are specially formulated for use atlow temperatures. The solution will remove swarf, dirt machine oil and metalworkingcoolants from such components as machined castings, cylinder blocks, gear componentsand general machined parts. Q8 Brytoklean TR provides excellent cleaning performanceand with its nitrite free rust inhibitor imparts good short term protection, it can be usedfor inter-stage or final stage washing.

Q8 BrytokleanCM

A liquid concentrate comprising of a blend of alkali builders, sequestrates, corrosioninhibitors and biodegradable surfactants. Q8 Brytoklean CM has been speciallyformulated for use at low temperatures; the solution is suitable for removing a widerange of contaminants that result from machining operations. The product can be usedto clean a wide range of metals and has no adverse effect on alkali sensitive metals suchas aluminium. It is particularly useful for Spray Washing Machine applications where onlyvery low levels of foam are generated.

Contram CB 1 A water soluble chemical product with the ability to loosen and disperse deposits and atthe same time kill bacterial contamination in soluble oil emulsions used in metalmachining or forming operations. Bacteria can exist and multiply dramatically under bothaerobic (well aerated) and anaerobic (in the absence of oxygen) conditions, and leftunchecked will speedily destroy any emulsion system. The bacteria feed upon andconsequently deplete the coupling agents and anti corrosion agents that are essential tocorrect and trouble free operation.

Q8 BrytokleanpH Buffer

Designed to give an extension to the useful life of water based on wire drawing emulsionin service, by restoring alkaline pH values. Q8 Brytoklean pH Buffer is an organic mixturethat can be used without the disadvantage of build up of inorganic salts and withreduced risk of over treatment and is superior to traditional methods of adjusting pHvalues such as adding caustic chemicals. It is readily dispersible in water based emulsionand is the recommended treatment wherever these are used. Suitable for single sumpmachines and particularly recommended where large scale centralised systems are in use.

Q8 Brytolean AQ-LF

A highly concentrated liquid cleaner, designed for the cleaning of industrial floors by mechanical or manual methods. Will rapidly remove oil, grease and generally soiling from floors and other hard surfaces. When used with floor scrubbing machines the low foaming nature of the product promotes the easy rinsing of the floor leaving minimal detergent residue.
