One Another

Two campers decided to take a weekend trip. After spending a peaceful first night in the forest, they awoke ready for their day. As they were enjoying their morning coffee, the men suddenly spotted a very large, VERY hungry grizzly bear coming at them. One of the men quickly pulled on his running shoes.

“Do you actually think you can outrun that grizzly bear?” his friend asked.

“I don’t need to,” he replied. “All I have to do is outrun you!”

Most of us have friends like the one in this story: they will stand by our sides in the good times, but at the first sign of trouble, they take off running and in the process, leave us for the “bears”! But that’s not what genuine friendship is about. Check out this passage from the book of Ecclesi-astes:

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided rope is not easily broken.

Most of us want friends like the ones described in this passage–friends who will stick around through “thick and thin”. Unfortunately, it is hard to be a friend like that. Walking through tough times with others can be difficult! So how do we live out the kind of friendship described in this text?

If we are looking for an example of great friendship, we need to look no further than Jesus him-self. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us:

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:12-13)

How can we display the type of friendship Jesus displayed for us?

Let us

Live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:16)

Do not pass judgment on one another (Romans 14:12)

Accept one another (Romans 15:7)

Greet one another (1 Corinthians 16:20)

Encourage one another (2 Corinthians 13:11)

Humbly serve one another (Galatians 5:13)

Be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32)

Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13)

Spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)

Don’t grumble against one another (James 5:9)

If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us (1 John 4:12)

Congratulations to Serenity Bell 1.2 who dances for Impact Dance Factory

and will be representing Perth at the National Showcase Dance Event to be

held in January at the Star Casino in Queensland.

Serenity won both her jazz solo, earning a high gold award, her lyrical solo,

earning a gold award and placing 2nd overall in the her mini and Jnr sections.

Well done Serenity. You are a star.

In the Library Night of Notables

Congratulations to the following Year 5 and 6 Extension Class students who took part in the Night of Notables evening on Thursday last week. Here they did a great job presenting to their invited audience, a character they considered to have made a significant contribution to mankind. SWAP A BOOK AND RAISE FUNDS FOR LITERACY!

Join the Great Book Swap Challenge for Primary Students Year 2 – 6 this year!

This fun reading event will take place in the Primary School library during the school day on Tuesday 28th November

(week 8).

The purpose of the challenge is to raise funds for Indigenous literacy, and of course to enjoy swapping your favourite

book for another’s favourite read, giving you holiday reading material too!

Remember that to participate, students need to donate a book in good condition, that they

love, but can bear to part with, as well as a gold coin donation on the day. This will then give

them the chance to choose a book.

Books for donation will be collected from week 6 by class teachers, so when spring-

cleaning, please remember to put aside the book you wish to donate!

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation will use the funds we raise to provide books to children

in remote communities. For more information on the work they do see

Reading Café

Students enjoyed a fast paced Reading Café before school in the library, when Mr Stolp read

from 300 Minutes of Danger by Australian author Jack Heath. Each of the stories

in this book take about 30 minutes to read and Mr Stolp broke the record completing

the Inferno in under 20 minutes.

Invitational Athletics Carnival

On Friday 20th October, the QBC Athletics Team travelled down the road to participate in the Invitational Athletics Carnival.

It was a very windy start to the day with brilliant warm conditions in the afternoon.

I trust that all the athletes are all recovered from Friday and had a restful weekend enjoying the sunshine.

Thank you to all the parents for your assistance throughout the day, rolling with the program changes, find-ing athletes etc.

There were some exceptional athletes on show from each school that we may hopefully hear of down the track at the Olympics or World Championships!

QBC came a credible 4th Overall and placed 2nd in the Tabloids.

Congratulations to all the QBC athletes for performing so well on the day!

Each year the City of Wanneroo conducts the Mayor's Christmas Appeal to assist

members of our Community who are facing hard times.

Our school has been taking part in this Appeal for the past few years and have always

successfully donated a great deal of food and toys. Please help us do the same again this year.

Christmas puddings/cakes, Fruit mince pies, Cakes, cake mix and biscuits, Nuts, crackers and

The School has become aware that photographs of

students involved in activities at the School are

appearing on social networking sites such as

Facebook. The School recognises that parents often

take photographs of their own child at various school

events and display these photographs as they see fit.

However, the School requests that parents do not

publish photographs of other students in any media

or on any form of social networking sites without the

express written permission of the other child’s/

children’s parents.

We have had a number of complaints regarding parents parking or waiting in the ‘KISS & DRIVE’.

As an ongoing effort to reduce the traffic concern around the College, we ask that as a community,

we can support the following:

Be aware that this is a drop off, pick up zone only.

We are fully aware that parking is always limited. By using the drop off area correctly traffic

can flow more easily.

If your child is not waiting you will need to move on.

Arriving Late or Leaving Early

Students are expected to be punctual when

arriving at school. Parents are reminded to

come to the Student Office to sign a Late

Note or Early Discharge Slip before dropping

off or collecting your child from school in the

event of arriving late or leaving early for any

reason.

If a student is late for class because of a

uniform fitting, please still come to the office

for a Late Note.

Confidentiality

Just a reminder that all photos of children or any information that may identify a child or their family

or the College, may not be used on any social media sites, or used for any purpose without the

specific written consent of the parent / guardian and the College.

School Lunches

When packing lunches for school, please be

aware that we are endeavouring to be an

allergy aware school. We have a number

of students at risk of an anaphylactic

reaction should they come into contact with

nuts.

Please assist us in minimising

this risk by not packing any

nut products (peanut butter,

Nutella or any food containing

any nuts) in school lunches.

STUDENTS on

MEDICATION

If you need us to administer any

medication to your child while at school,

please complete and sign a Medication

Form, available from Student Services.

ABSENTEES

Please contact Student Services on 9305

8882 by no later than 9.00am in the

event of unexpected absences or sick-

ness that necessitates your child being

away from the College for the day or for

any length of time.

A written note should accompany your

child and be handed to his/her

Teacher on his/her return. A

medical certificate may be

required to explain prolonged

absences.

DUTY OF CARE

Our duty of care obligations require us to take

reasonable care for the safety and wellbeing of your

children while at school. It is therefore important to

note that

class rooms only open at 8.15am, at which point

teachers will be on active duty. Consequently,

there will not be any teacher supervision until

8.15am.

Likewise, please ensure that your children are

collected promptly from school at 2.45pm when

classrooms are again closed for the day.

All playground equipment is out-of-bounds

before school. Students playing on the oval or

playground equipment after school must be

actively supervised by their parents and do so at

their own risk.

When visiting the school during school hours

please report to reception or when dropping off

items for your children, please leave these with

the ladies in the office. We cannot stress enough

how important it is for your children’s safety that

we know who is on the school premises at all

times.

Students may not leave the school grounds

before, during or after school to go to the shops

or McDonalds, etc. and then return to the

school. This is regarded as serious breach of

safety and infringements or send-outs will be

issued!

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe

school community.

Uniform Changes for 2018

There will be some uniform changes for 2018 which will

only affect our current Pre Primary Students.

Students going into Year 1 in 2018 will wear the current sports uniform

every day and for the whole year. This will continue into Year 2 the

following year.

Unwanted Uniforms

If you have any QBC Uniform at home that you no longer require, and

which are still in reasonable condition, the College would gratefully accept

your donations.

Donations can be left at the Administration Office, marked for the atten-

tion of the Uniform Shop, or alternatively they can be dropped at the Uni-

form Shop opening times on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
