CEO MessageDear Associates,

I am a month removed from my recent trip to Asia and the Middle East, where Morgan and I were busy working with our various Emergenetics Asia offices to conduct seminars and certify 37 new Associates, but the experience is still very fresh in my mind. This is the first time Emergenetics International has worked in the Middle East, and we are excited to have our newly certified Associates in the United Arab Emirates using Emergenetics in their work. If you have the opportunity to visit Abu Dhabi or Dubai we highly encourage you to do so, as I’m sure you will find it as special as we did.

This trip also reminded me of the importance of teamwork and collaboration. By working with our Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok offices, we have developed a streamlined and effective company that is able to respond with creative solutions that match your business needs. We have, in effect, created a global WEteam that encapsulates not only diverse ways of thinking but also a broad cultural framework—all of which translates into a more complete organization.

Our management teams provide the foundation for success, but it is you, our Associates, that drive the work that we do. That’s why this trip was especially exciting for me, because it showed clearly the great strides that Emergenetics International has made in a short amount of time and the significant potential for even more growth in the near future. Of course, for me the highlight was simply meeting and talking to the new Associates that are joining our Emergenetics community.

One clear way that you are helping to drive our business is your tremendous creativity. I am consistently amazed at your ideas, and your brilliance was on full display during our Newsletter naming contest. We received over 50 dazzling name suggestions, which made picking one all the more difficult. As you can see, our office decided on Synapses, which was submitted by both Kurt Beerline and David Goldberg. Congratulations to Kurt and David, and we will profile them in upcoming newsletters.

I just want to highlight one more thing—this year’s Brain Summit. As the date gets closer, I am becoming more excited about the insights we will gain and the connections you will make. Getting a chance to see the island and the Hilton Sanya on our recent trip was exhilarating. Sanya is a gorgeous place, as you can tell from the photos I sent you recently, although pictures and descriptions cannot do it justice. You will have to see it for yourself! The Brain Summit will truly be a can’t-miss experience that will provide you with so many new experiences and opportunities, and I hope each of you will join us. Here’s to Emergenetics throughout the world.

Love,

Geil

CEO MessageDear Associates,

The summer is drawing to a close but we’ve got new possibilities opening up every day, along with an exciting slate of events scheduled to happen in the next few months. From our third annual

Emergenetics Advanced class in a few weeks to an additional seven Certifications around the world, including our first ever in both Romania and India, there is a true sense of Moving Thinking Forward throughout our worldwide community.

Looking ahead is imperative—it’s how we grow, evolve and find new ways to serve our customers—but reflection is a practice that cannot be overlooked. Reflection is crucial to our workshops and sessions as well as a vital element organizationally for Emergenetics International. My overall reflections thus far over 2010 can be summed up in a few words and a few images…Go. Forward. Arrows pointing ahead. These ideas conjure a mindset for our business and a true reflection of the new Emergenetics International brand—We are looking to the future. We are driving new ideas. We are doing business that is innovative, client-focused and geared for results. And it’s showing.

Our website and new branding have been launched and it was incredibly successful—we had a wonderful event with many in the Emergenetics family supporting us. I can’t tell you how powerful it was to be able to see and talk to our offices in Singapore and Japan. I truly felt the connection of a global family and I know that this is a prevailing mindset moving forward. I would like to thank our global team, particularly our marketing directors, Mark Miller and Rosalind Hong.

In this newsletter you will see evidence of the growth and development of our company and the confluence of people and ideas that have come together to bring us to a new level. Our CORE Model is in place and already working in organizations (see page 6); we’ve got new applications that apply Emergenetics to your day-to-day business (page 9); and we have new real-world examples of the power that Emergenetics brings to organizations (find links to our newest case studies on page 8 and our Associate Profiles on page 4 and 5).

It is an exciting time for Emergenetics International and I know that together we will all be Moving Thinking Forward.

Warmly and with success for all of you in 2010,

Business UpdateDear Associates,

As you have probably heard, we were once again honored to receive the Inc. 500/5000 award as one of the fastest growing private companies in the United States. While the award itself is a blessing, what truly makes this special is the fact that we have accomplished this feat for four consecutive years. Our Emergenetics core values of Quality, Integrity, Family, and Sustainability, were vital pillars to our growth and shaped our

continual development over a long period of time. Furthermore, without your support and dedication to our company and these values, we would not have enjoyed this achievement. It proves that a WEapproach™ is truly a powerful thing!

I assure you that this is only the beginning of our dedication to growth and progress. A few weeks ago, our global team met for two days of updates and 5 year strategic planning. Our strategic direction focused on further product development, expansion into new markets, and clear global alignment moving forward. Our plans include further attention towards our Global STEP program and continuing the positive impact that we are having in schools

with adults and children. We also envision a suite of products and services that cater towards Emergenetics and the family, which will complement our business and education offerings. Each of these emphases will round out our Emergenetics lines to make a robust, comprehensive platform to improve communication and bridge understanding amongst individuals. Ultimately, our goal is to provide tools that make you as effective as possible. You are our most important resource, and we all succeed at improving the lives of others when you are fully equipped with the tools you need. As part of our commitment to providing new insights, we’re excited to present Emergentics 24 Hours. Click on the banner below and learn more.

As always, we encourage that you reach out to us with ideas that would make your job easier, and you more effective. Our dedication to making the Inc. 500/5000 list for the 5th year in a row is as strong as ever, and, with your help, I’m confident we will reach this achievement.

Best,

MorganPresident & COO, Emergenetics International@motownbrowning

Dear friends,

We hope this quarter of the year has been exceptional for you, just as it has been for Emergenetics in Asia Pacific as we continue with our strategy of Expanding Outreach, Widening Exposure and Deepening Engagement!

Firstly, please join me in welcoming Dr Chris Lam as the new Country Representative for

Greater China! Chris has over 20 years of extensive leadership training and coaching experience in Greater China and Asia, and has established training centres across Greater China. Since being certified last year, Chris has been passionate about bringing Emergenetics to every mind in China. As CEO of Emergenetics International-Greater China, Chris has formed a team dedicated to promoting Emergenetics in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Greater China. We had an amazing office opening ceremony (in true Hong Kong fashion!) in July. You should check out the Emergenetics International-Greater China office in Kowloon, Hong Kong – different walls are painted with each of the Emergenetics colours! We look forward to a strong partnership with Chris and to bring the benefits of Emergenetics throughout Greater China.

On generating more publicity for Emergenetics, we’ve had pretty good exposure this quarter. I was able to briefly share about Emergenetics on “MoneyMind”, a docu-feature series on Channel Newsasia, Singapore’s current affairs TV channel that broadcasts across Asia. We were also invited back to the studio to talk about Emergenetics on 938LIVE, Singapore’s prime news radio station. Thanks to Associates who were part of the organising committee for 17th International Association of Facilitators Asia Conference held in Singapore in August, we had a booth to showcase Emergenetics and to share more about it to the professional facilitators community.

Our focus on deepening engagement with Associates saw us having numerous meaningful sessions designed with our Associates in mind. We held a business update session on 12 June, a third qualitative workshop for the year on 27 June, and a fourth SCOOPEG session on 29 July. We also worked with the 17th IAF Asia Conference organising committee for Associates to enjoy some savings at the conference. I would like to say thank you to the SCOOPEG Committee made up of volunteer Associates and also to our Associate Dr Donald Yeo for leading us through the topic of “What can we really learn from studying our brains?” I look forward to more associates stepping forward to help build this Emergenetics community we have come to love.

Meanwhile, Emergenetics Certification programmes continued throughout the quarter. We are happy that Emergenetics International-Greater China has successfully organized its first Certification programme in Hong Kong from 13-15 July and that Emergenetics International-Korea held another in Seoul from 24-26 July. So here’s a big welcome to the new Associates to our Emergenetics family! We look forward to you completing your Blueprint process soon so you can be fully certified. Speaking of Blueprint, we are happy to announce that several Associates have completed their Blueprint successfully – congratulations! (For a listing of Blueprint completers, please see pg 2)

I’m sure by now you would have noted the spanking new www.emergenetics.com website and seen the refreshed branding of Emergenetics International. While it is truly a global WEteam™ effort, I’m proud of my team in the Asia Pacific office for making a huge contribution to the branding project, in particular Deborah Chew, Chief Operating Officer; and Mark Lim, Creative Director – thank you for working long hours just so we can complete the project. I believe the results speak volumes for your creativity, hard work, and professionalism.

The final quarter of this year is going to be full of activities – so do get in touch with your respective Country offices or Alvin, our Associate Engagement Manager so you don’t miss out on the action. We’re already planning our year-end Associates Gathering and Annual Awards on 5 December 2014 – so please SAVE THE DATE! If you’re looking for a training space, consider Level 2@EGI-A at our Keong Saik Road office in Singapore. As always, Associates get priority! We also have certifications lined up for next quarter throughout the region, so recommend your connections to get certified so they can begin harnessing the power of Emergenetics to benefit themselves and their clients.

Till we next meet, I would like to wish you a fruitful last quarter of 2014! Stay in touch with us in the following ways online:

Emergenetics AdvancedAdvanced Certification - Europe | September 2014

This past September 2nd-4th, Advanced Certification was held in Echteld, The Netherlands. Experienced Emergenetics Associates gathered as a community of peers for 2½-days of knowledge sharing, advanced neuroscience education, skill and analysis refinement, and new Emergenetics activity ideas.

Associates stepped beyond the learnings of their first Certification class and left prepared to wield Emergenetics as a powerful tool within their organization and with their clients. Master Associate Chris Cox led the group in situational discussions, and helped Associates developing robust spectrum analysis skills in order to more fully integrate Emergenetics into all aspects of their work.

Clap along if you feel…

There is a great brain experiment going on in the UK, called the Great Brain Experiment. The first related research has just been published and it is about happiness. The experiment involved a classic approach – participants being asked how happy they were in the moment; but combined it with reward gaming, a computational algorithm, fMRI and uniquely, a mobile app. The mobile app means that the researchers can analyze results from volunteers – expanding the data base for the algorithm segment of the study from 26 participants to over 18,000. The bottom line of the research is that subjective happiness is expectations based. Rather than feeling happy in the moment because things are going well, we feel happy when things are going better than we expect. Reflect on that.

Regina Chua is a customer engagement strategist with vast experience in the marketing and business development in Asia Pacific. After 15 years of working with over 500 corporations, she founded DD Consulting, a boutique sales training consultancy.

Since 2003, the company has served clients internationally and specializes in consultative engagement. Their proprietary model, F.I.R.E.F.L.Y, catapulted them as a leading corporate human

capital partner for their clients. DD Consulting works collaboratively with customers to address business needs by leveraging the power of human capital, offering solutions for strategic planning and visioning, engagement skills in the areas of customer management, and collaboration tools such as negotiation, and conflict management.

In analysing the robustness of customers’ business plans, Regina uses Emergenetics to objectively classify what they are doing versus what they holistically aim for.

“I found out about Emergenetics from other Associates and was impressed by the scientific approach to the construct!”

Through visual facilitation in large group sessions, Emergenetics provides visual clarity for creating an environment of further dialogue to enhance performance by connecting the knowledge to an outcome.

While DD Consulting offers a wide range of communications related training programmes, Regina uses Emergenetics to focus on specific engagement behaviours to help their clients intentionally build trust and create a collaborative workplace.

“Emergenetics provides a ‘live snapshot’ of the organisation’s DNA. We launch a platform in creating common ground and provide the opportunity to help each other see the uniqueness in every profile. It is an excellent tool to use in negotiation and conflict management as well. There are just so many ways to utilise the tool. Best of all, it is a language that is easy to communicate effectively with one another.”

Remarkable results and sustainable outcomes were achieved as Regina and her team provides consultations, customized trainings or large group facilitations, and team coaching to their clients. This is to ensure that the Emergenetics approach comes to life – mainly through employee engagement (internal team development) and stakeholder engagement (understanding the thinking and behavioural preferences of their customers).

For the last 11 years, Regina and her team pride themselves in collaborative relationships with their clients and earned media recognition in Consultative Engagement in Channel News Asia this year.

“We perceive Emergenetics as a tool that complements our business framework by providing a scientific yet relatable model for both our consultants and clients”, she commented. “Most importantly, Emergenetics engages our customers to tap into their strengths – and that’s what we at DD Consulting do best – using strategic engagement to build trust and credibility fast!”

Have you ever wanted to hire for a position on your team and you wish you had the candidates’ Emergenetics Profiles…but you know you’re not supposed to use the Profile to hire? What are you to do?

Use the Emergenetics Selection Program (ESP), a total candidate assessment that measures everything from preferences, attitudes and motivation to bottom-line skills like logic, grammar, problem-solving and multitasking abilities.

ESP provides hiring managers with an accurate measure of how a candidate’s preferences and actual capabilities match the specific position requirements. We give you the tools to narrow down the pool of qualified candidates and determine if there is a match in job compatibility and performance. The tool enables organizations to scientifically identify potential bad hires, and provides a robust measure of skills and preferences to ensure that you don’t miss out on a great candidate.

Emergenetics International is seeing two trends in the hiring space: companies acknowledging the importance of hiring for fit in addition to skill, as well as an increase in companies wanting to use Emergenetics Tools during the hiring process. Therefore, to meet the need of increased interest, ESP is expanding and Emergenetics is happy to announce that their newest Account Manager, Kelly Fullerton, is now specializing in the tool to help increase the capacity of the program.

A key step in increasing capacity was holding the first ever open ESP Certification in the US on June 12th this year and it was a great success! We are now adding several more open Certifications to the calendar: September 25th in Cambridge, UK; October 24th in Denver, CO; and November 3rd in Omaha, NE. We also held Certifications in Malmo, Sweden earlier this year and in Cambridge, UK last December and are looking to continue building on that success.

You do not need to be an Emergenetics Associate to attend an ESP Certification. Attending Certification gives you clear business benefits: create custom Job Profiles, identify candidates who best fit the role, and develop a stronger interview process. Being Certified enables you to use ESP within your own organization or to provide consultation services to other organizations.

If you are interested in learning more about ESP or attending one of our upcoming open Certifications, please contact Kelly Fullerton at [email protected].

Emergenetics Blog HighlightAchieve Greater Productivity by Expanding your Focus

By Mark MillerVice President of Marketing

Does greater productivity occur when we can focus in one particular direction or when we can access multiple ways to get something done? It is an interesting question because it makes a difference in how you define productivity. I’ll give you an example.

I was just speaking with a client who had a huge preference for Conceptual thinking and he was focusing through his strengths to develop a whitepaper for their clients on major trends. As a big-picture thinker and a visionary, this kind of work and output was compelling to him and he created the whitepaper on time and with incredibly high quality. You could say that he was highly productive in this task. He narrowed his focus to the kind of imaginative output that worked with his brain.

From a different perspective though, he noticed that while clients found it valuable, they were unsure what to do with the information. There was a structural, practical element that was missing. Ultimately they fixed this gap, but it meant a version 2.0 and increased time. On an overall level, the end product became more difficult to produce and truly a less productive endeavor for the company.

The point is that productivity isn’t always about getting something done and out the door. Productivity means actually producing outputs that crate the right kind of value. That’s where an understanding of a more holistic perspective on work can help leaders and teams be more productive.

I recently listened to a podcast by noted author and thinker Tim Ferriss, most famous for his concept of the 4-hour workweek, which in essence is about being more productive and satisfied. He made a fairly provocative assertion that we should not be specialists, but rather should focus on being generalists. “Specialization is for insects!” he said. This is hard, because, with competition as fierce as it is, to not push solely to the point of specialization and expertise seems foolish and

unproductive. One key reason supporting the idea of generalization though came from the concept of how generalization can take one out of a narrow mindset or perspective and introduce new ideas or ways of thinking or accomplishments.

While being a generalist in practice may be tough (its hard after all to become a quasi-expert on many things instead of a real expert on one or two), the idea that we can utilize a broader mindset or pool of resources to gain a different perspective is critical. That’s not a new idea, but connecting it to productivity is pretty unique.

Just think about how much more productive you could be if you could truly understand the various ramifications, from many perspectives, of a particular plan you’ve laid out. In the case of my client, they ultimately lost productivity because the output wasn’t developed from a truly diverse enough perspective and it required additional work on the back-end to get to a level of quality that they wanted. For their clients, this was seen in a positive light–making a good product even better and going the extra mile.

But, for them it was a learning experience. So how can you become more productive by gaining more diverse perspectives?

1. Understand your go-to approach for completing a task – This is what will get you going and being productive right out of the gate.

2. Know what gaps you may be missing – If you don’t think about things naturally from a big-picture level, have that in your mind as you begin working.

3. Find information or people who can fill those gaps – This is about cognitive and behavioral diversity. This is where work on the front-end (getting out of your cognitive comfort zone) pays big dividends on the back end for overall productivity.

Productivity is all about knowing how to work smarter not harder – getting broader inputs is one way to do just that.
