GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE:The Season of Lent is a very special time of the year to reflect on the 40 days
Jesus spent in the desert fasting and giving up material things during that period. Always remember that Christ gave his life to save yours.
The next council meeting will be held in Plum at the Plum Dining Hall on Tuesday, March 13th.
The hall is moving along and will near completion in April. We are working hard at updating and modernizing the hall, kitchen and restroom areas.
If you have someone going off to college in the fall, it is time to submit a scholarship application. Applications are due April 2018. Council #2574 will award scholarships to eligible students. You may contact Jody Supak or your high school counselor for more information.
As always we need to mark our calendars for the MS 150 Bike-A-Thon which is on April 27-29. We will need as many people as possible to help out. We will be loading and hauling equipment to and from the Fair Grounds. We will be preparing, serving and cleaning up for two meals, dinner and breakfast. More information will be sent in the April newsletter.
In closing I would like to thank everyone for all of the behind the scenes and hard work that members have been volunteering to help the council with as well as the continued support and donations. With all of this continued support and help we have been able to get the hall up and running in the near future. Without this support both financially and physically, we would be unable to have the hall ready therefore causing a loss of revenue for the council and community center for a much longer period of time than six months. Thank you so much.
I would also like to wish you and your families a very Blessed Easter.
GRAND KNIGHT, Arlin Keilers

The Church speaks of Lent as a “Spiritual Springtime”. The original meaning of the word has all to do with
springtime. When Lent begins, it is winter. But by the time Lent concludes, the days are growing longer and the
forsythias are in bloom. In our spiritual lives, it is a time when the darkness of sin gives way to a new light of grace.
We can renew our lives by observing the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Once we look at Lent as
the herald of a new springtime in our spiritual lives, these Lenten practices are no longer unwelcome intrusions.
Our first call is to Prayer. There are many ways to pray but one important way is silent, mental prayer, when
we are alone with God. Such prayerful solitude requires us to turn off all our electronic devices and other distractions.
Then simply ask the Lord to let us see ourselves as He sees us. Such prayer leads one to seek the Lord’s mercy and
make an unburdening confession of our sins. Reconciliation is a first and essential step in spiritual housekeeping.
The next Lenten practice is Fasting or some other form of self-denial. It is a way of uprooting our deep-seated
habits of sin or endless desire for comfort, convenience, power and esteem. This leads to the final Lenten practice of
Almsgiving. This includes the giving of ourselves and our resources to those who are in need. The practice of charity
is how we open the windows of our souls to God’s love, forgetting our own wants and needs and concentrating on the
needs of others. For us as Knights, this practice of charity should be second nature.
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are in fact inseparable. As St. Peter Chrysologus (+450) taught: “Fasting is the
soul of prayer, almsgiving is the lifeblood of fasting…”
Peace and Blessings this Lenten Season,
Father Dan Kahlich
