It is used to remove plasma proteins, thrombocytes and leukocytes from erythrocytes by washing with sodium isotonic solution in a totally closed system

QUADRUPLE CELL WASHING BAG SYSTEM
The blood which is to be washed is transferred to the first bag by placing the spike of the taking tube into the outlet port or by sterile connection of the tubes
If it is whole blood to be washed, then the system is centrifuged. The erythrocytes remain at the bottom andthe plasma stays at the top. (2200 xg, 15 dk,1-6 °C)
The tubing of the third bag is closed with a temporary knot or plastic clip. The resultant plasma is transferred to the fourth bag. The tubing of the plasma bag is sealed using a tubing sealer. The bag is separated from the system and stored in deep freeze.
The break-away part of the second bag is broken and250 ml of 0.9% NaCl solution, the washing agent, is transferred into the erythrocytes and mixed gently. After transfer, the tube is closed with a temporary knotor plastic clip.
The erythrocytes with the washing solution are centrifuged. (2200 xg, 15 dk, 1-6 °C)
The reddish solution formed on the top after centrifugation is transferred into the empty transfer bag. After this step, the tubing of the bag is sealed using a tubing sealer and the bagis seperated from the system
The clamp of the second bag is opened and the washing solution remaining in the second bag is transferred into erythrocytes.(Washing is completed by repeating theoperations mentioned in steps 4-6.)
Erythrocytes washed with 0.9% NaCl solution should be used within 24 hours.
