This report is based, in large part, on a series of single- day assessments of students in grades 3 through 8. The state assessments and reports are one important indicator of student progress, but there is no single measure that can accurately capture and report all that is done in the Hilliard City Schools. The Quality Profile (QP) is our first attempt to capture a more complete picture of our district’s strengths, areas for improvement and comprehensive services. This isn’t perfect; the QP will evolve over the next several years. We want to hear from you. What would you like to know about your school district? How can we better share our story with you? Strong schools and strong communities are synonymous. We are partners in the goal to prepare our students for success in the future. We work together to live the Hilliard City Schools mission to ensure that every student is Ready for Tomorrow. Take a moment to review our Quality Profile. We have a strong school district, but there is much work to be done. We will continue to evolve, innovate and improve to meet the needs of each student in our care. Hilliard Community Family:

For decades the Ohio Departmentof Education has released a StateReport Card for Ohio’s schooldistricts. This report is based, inlarge part, on a series of single-day assessments of students ingrades 3 through 8. The stateassessments and reports are oneimportant indicator of student

progress, but there is no single measure that canaccurately capture and report all that is done in theHilliard City Schools.

The Quality Profile (QP) is our first attempt to capture amore complete picture of our district’s strengths, areas forimprovement and comprehensive services. This isn’tperfect; the QP will evolve over the next several years. We want to hear from you. What would you like to knowabout your school district? How can we better share ourstory with you?

Strong schools and strong communities are synonymous. We are partners in the goal to prepare our students forsuccess in the future. We work together to live theHilliard City Schools mission to ensure that every studentis Ready for Tomorrow. Take a moment to review ourQuality Profile. We have a strong school district, but thereis much work to be done. We will continue to evolve, innovate and improve to meet the needs of each studentin our care.

Colleges look to student participation inextra-curricular activities as a sign of bothleadership and a well-rounded student. In fact, studies show that students needopportunities to excel in activitiesbeyond the classroom and that doing sohelps them to excel in academics.Increasing participation in extracurricularactivities for students is critical.

We know thatHilliard Schools’

residents expect us to operatein a lean manner and to directfunds to the classroom.Residents want to see a goodvalue for their investment inthe schools. Taxpayers whofund our schools will notsupport us in the future if weare not responsible in how wespend those fiscal resources.

Goals forImprovement:• Hilliard Schools will maintain a responsible levy cycle understanding thatresidential property taxes provide a substantial portion of our budget.

• Hilliard Schools will hold transparent conversations on finances about futureneeds with the Hilliard taxpayers during the 2014-15 school year.

Hilliard Schoolsmust instill hope

and passion for learning ifwe expect students tosucceed. The results in threeof our schools indicate thatonly 43 percent of Hilliardstudents surveyed areconsidered to be hopeful. This is not good enough.

This is an area that we mustsee dramatic improvement. Our teachers will use thisdata to assess how studentperceptions of theclassroom environmentactually align with theirstudents’ attitudes. Everystudent should have a highlevel of ideas and energyfor their future.

Goals for Improvement:• Expand the survey to all schools and for students in grades four through 12.

• Expand the percentage of hopeful students by five percent each year over thenext two years.

The involvement of community organizations in our district is an indispensableasset to Hilliard Schools. When students feel supported by the adults in thecommunity then they will feel supported to achieve big things. To get there, we must give parents and students connections that provide them support and guidance so that students are prepared for the challenges of each new day.

Goals for Improvement:• Hilliard City Schools willadd multiple businesspartnerships to provideinternship opportunities for students during the2014-15 school year.

• Hilliard City Schools willseek partnerships withsocial and faith-basedorganizations to providesupport, resources andcounseling for families inour school community.

A sophisticated use of technology within our schools is imperative tostudents today. Children begin at very young ages using technology

and electronic devices. Education has not kept pace with these changes.Hilliard Schools’ teachersand staff need to notonly keep up with thelatest technology but tointegrate it more intotheir classrooms.

Goals forImprovement: • Number of onlinecourses will increase to70 during the 2014-15school year.

• Implementation of theTechnology Task Forcefindings will occurduring the 2014-15 school year. This includes offering our educators moreprofessional development in technology and creating electronic classroomresources for all students.

• Hilliard City Schools willcontinue to increaseparticipation in fine arts, music and drama programsat all grade levels.

• Participation inextra curricula’s formiddle and highschool studentswill increase bytwo percent eachof the next fiveyears from 59percent to 69percent by 2020.

Goals for Improvement:

PartnershipsThe Whole Child

Goals forImprovement:• Increase the number ofcollege credits earnedby high schoolstudents by 10 percent.

• Advance the number of elementary students who meet or exceed gradelevel expectations in mathematics.

Rigorous academic standards, broad curricular opportunities and thevery best teaching are all critical to our Hilliard students. They are

competing with the verybest and brightest. Theworkforce of tomorrowrequires employees to beproblem solvers and criticalthinkers. Our job isto provide educationalopportunities with highlevels of rigor to ensurethat students have the skills to meet these high demands.

Hopeful students believe and understand:• Their future will be better than their present. • There are multiple pathways to future success.• Success requires effort and planning.
