Director’s Message

Dear Parents, Students & Community Members,

Students today are quite different than those of the 20th cen-

tury. Students born between 1990 and 2010 are referred to as

Millennia. The following characteristics describe these 21st century

students:

They like to be in control. They like choice. They are group oriented

and social. They are inclusive (tolerant of races, religions and sexual

orientations). They are practiced users of digital technology. They

think differently and are more likely to take risks. Lastly, they value

their time off as they view life as uncertain. We at QSI strive to recog-

nize and embrace these points to create a better learning environment

for the students in helping them meet the challenges of the 21st cen-

tury.

7 & 8 year olds

Cultural Studies - Treasure Hunt

We have started a new unit in Cultural Studies entitled 'Maps and Globes'.

We saw that objects look different when viewed from above. We found an image of

our school on Google Maps, drew it out in plan and created a treasure map. The

children had to use the map and follow the dotted lines to different places around

the school to collect six clues.

Putting the clues together, they discovered the location of the treasure. The chil-

dren really enjoyed this activity and have requested another treasure hunt!
