Dialogue

The dialogue for this movie is very direct and reveals the some parts of the narrative to the audiences. A lot of Intertitles are used throughout the trailer to direct the audience’s attention which keeps them focused to the trailer. With no voiceovers in the trailer, there is only sounds coming from the actual movie which creates a more tense and dramatic atmosphere. The type of language used in the dialogue of the trailer is they simple and conventional choice of words and actions. Screaming and crying shouting are all regular used when characters speak this help build up the tension of the trailer and a fear factor which helps the audience connect with the trailer.

Credits and Intertitles

The first six Intertitles of the trailer have the same front, black background with white writing. The conventions of this connotes to typical horror movie, black showing bad and mystery and the white writing is the area of good and hope in this movie. Also this is simple and clear to read format to read. The first 2 Intertitles are just factual information of the time and date of the storyline of the movie.

following Intertitles make up a sequential sentence which is very conventional in a horror movie trailer to tell the audience more about the story. The first intertitle in this sequence is “authorities have denied any knowledge of the incident” this creates anticipation excitement and confuses views as this is a very unusual. The next Intertitles are “what happened that night” and “until now”. This is the last intertitle before a actual scenes of the movie are shown. This leaves the audience in suspense and fear as they can anticipate what will happen next. This is very effective as this leaves views are focused and wanting more.

The next five Intertitles are the same format however this time they have added a green strip running across the word. This links it back to the movie brand of quarantine as this is the house style of the movie. The final intertitle says “Quarantine” in large writing to make it stand out more as this is the name of the movie as this makes it evident.

Narrative

The narrative of this trailer is about a television reporter and her camera man following five men on duty. Everything seems good at the start of the movie when suddenly they get a 911 call. They try to rescue a screaming women trapped. Suddenly everything goes dark and loud with people screaming and sharp flashes. This narrative is conventional of a horror trailer as there are many sudden changes involved. The director has used this disruption to intrigue the audience and make them question what has happening therefore leaving them in suspense and there is a high volume of tension which makes the trailer puzzling and viewer wanting more. This trailer is a linear plot which is more traditional way of building tension for the audience. Not making it complex so the audience can easily flow what is happening.

Pace

The pace of this trailer conventionally starts off slow while the normal events are taking place and then suddenly speeds up as the first sign of disaster unfolds then a sudden slow down in pace, then eventually changes and an increase in pace at the end of the trailer. This pace can also reflect back to a person’s heartbeat which helps connect with the audience. This generates the audience’s interest levels to heighten and the focus of wanting more.

Voiceovers

There are no voiceovers used only dialogue form the actual films itself. This is conventional type for this type of user generated film as it suppose to come across as a realist self-made environment so the views can connect with is.

Camera angles and shots

The first two shorts are close ups which is a convention for a horror movie trailer as it lets see the characters emotions Showing the audience her face and the facial expressions, this allows a strong relation between the audience and the character on screen as the audience can almost feel the fear they are going though and the anticipation from the next move. These particular shots show the characters in anxiety and fear which portrays the felling of the movie.

This shot is a double over the shoulder shot which is effective as this point they are both looking out toward the window trying to escape. This shot allows to emphasises the action they are about to take, which give a clear indication to the audience on what they are potential about to do.

The next shot is an extreme close up which is also conventional to horror movies as it lets us into the characters emotions in the particular scene. At this point we can see the character screaming and crying, this makes the audience feel for the character and allows us to connect to them. Also this makes the audience unsettled and on the edge.

This is a bird’s eye view shot of character falling down the top on the building. This emphasize the height in which they are falling from making it evident the pain that is about to be caused. This makes views feel scared and brings a element or fear factor involved.

CGI/Special effects

These two shots use CGI and special effects on these characters so that they become scary and bloody which makes the viewer feel scared and fear of these characters. The camera shot in in night mode which is a special effect used to make the movie more realists. The shot is the most famous shots in the movie as it is the poster cover for the film as well; it is also the last shot in the trailer. CGI in the trailer helps create horrific scene which scare the audience.

Music and sound

The music at the start is upbeat and resembles a action packed event about to unfold. This adds to setting an equilibrium which is then disturbed by a loud sound and screams which are conventional noises of horror movie trailer. And then high pitch strings sounds are used, also technological sounds are used as the screen flickers to show user generated theme. Many shouting sounds are also included at various parts of the trailer as well as the evacuation and gunshots. This also has sudden changes and continuously changing noises which keeps viewer questioning. The face pace sounds show the environment on the movie which is a terrifying place to be.

Unique selling point

The unique selling point of this trailer is that it is filmed from a hand held camera which is a realist perspective. This makes the cinematography unsteady which unique. This effect is that it adds more tension for the audience because the hand held camera makes the audience fell more personally interactive as it from a person’s point of view which is the main USP of the movie. This would attract the audience as they want to watch a film which is far realistic and gives a more life like experience when viewing.

The target audience of this film are people 18 and over as this is the age certificate. This is mainly for young adults which is also the same age of the character which they can relate to.
