READINGS FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12

TODAY'S READINGS First Reading — Do we not have one father? Did not the one God create us? (Malachi 1:14b — 2:2b, 8-10).

Psalm — In you, Lord, I have found my peace (Psalm 131).

Second Reading — You have received not a human word but the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13).

Gospel — Call no one your father on earth; you have but one Father, the one in heaven (Matthew 23:1-12).

First Reading — Wisdom is easily discerned by those who love her (Wisdom 6:12-16).

Psalm — My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God (Psalm 63).

Second Reading — Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 [13-14]).

Gospel — Stay awake! You know neither the day nor the hour (Matthew 25:1-13).

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION We had sixteen hundred years’ experience with one Eu-charistic Prayer in our repertoire, and the liturgical re-forms of the Council of Trent shaped the way we wor-shiped for four hundred years. In the last years of the Tri-dentine Mass, the early 1960s, we tended to see children as miniature adults. Fully rooted in the Sunday assembly by the decision of Pope Saint Pius X to push Communion back to the age of seven or so from the standard age of twelve to fourteen years during the early 1900s, children were still more tolerated than acknowledged. The Mass was in Latin, and by the 1960s the people had begun to regain their voices in the “dialogue Mass,” so the focus was on training little children to recite or sing in Latin. The new attention to the experience of children, their ability to enter into ritual, their spontaneity, their ability to grasp key concepts in faith, felt “untraditional.” Yet we can trace in our tradition the ways in which children have long been given a special place in the assembly. From earliest times, boys have served in choirs and cer-tain ministries in monasteries and in parish churches. Girls were sometimes entrusted to nuns, learning liturgi-cal chants and the arts. Yet, in our day, the formation of a Lectionary for children and Eucharistic Prayers suited to them are truly tremendous breakthroughs in our treasury of prayer. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Been Away for Awhile? No matter how long you have been away, and no matter what the reason, we invite you to consider renewing your relationship with Jesus and the Church. All Are Welcome! Please call 215-945-0215 or email [email protected].

PARISH NEWS STEWARDSHIP

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” - MATTHEW 23:12

Jesus gave His life to serve, not to be served. Putting other’s needs before our own needs is a sign of becoming a mature disciple, of following Jesus’ example. Humility is really a sign of a strength. By putting other’s needs first we declare to the world that we are putting our complete trust in God. When we align our thoughts and actions with God’s plan for us, the result is Joy and Peace.

FAITH FORMATION

Cross Train Your Faith 100 years ago, three young shepherd children in the village of Fatima in Portugal experienced six apparitions from a “Lady from Heaven” over a period of six months.

The lady revealed herself to be the Blessed Virgin Mary, and gave the children a secret in three parts, from aterrify-ing vision of hell to prophetic warnings of future events, including the timing and the start of the Second World War, the spread of communism, and the attempted assassination of the pope.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of these amazing appari-tions, on Wednesday, November 8, we will present “THE 13TH DAY”, the story of Our Lady of Fatima. This film was shot on location in Portugal and in England. Video of parts of the actual events are also included.

Join us on Wednesday, November 8 to experience this story like you never have before. Cross Train Your Faith meets every Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM and at 7:00 PM in the evening in the Queen of the Universe Parish Center. There is no cost to join us. No registration is required. Just show up. We have a great schedule of programs through the end of May, 2018. Pick up a trifold schedule at one of the church doors.

RCIA: RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.) The topic for our next gathering is "The Holy Spirit and the Life of Grace." We all can recall the prayer to the Holy Spirit, "Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love." We know that we cannot get to heaven on our own. We all need help.

Please come to the RCIA discussion of the Holy Spirit and the Life of Grace on Thurs, Nov. 9, at 7:00 PM in the Parish Center. Maybe you already have a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit that you can share with our candidates and you can also be refreshed by the Symbolon presentation of the Holy Spirit and the Life of Grace. All are welcome!
