It’s official: the summer
has started! Despite a
decidedly autumnal feel
to the start of June,
Queen’s Head team
members are maintaining
sunny dispositions in
anticipation of warmer
weather and some
special events for the
coming months.
This fun kicks off on a
traditionally British note
on Friday, June 5 at
8pm when the Salisbury-
based Sarum Morris
side pay a visit to enter-
tain us with their perform-
ance that includes
dances dating back more
than a century. For more information on the
side as well as the origins and history of Morris
Dancing, see www.sarummorris.co.uk.
Then it’s time to celebrate our dads on Sunday,
June 21 for Father’s Day. We will be serving
food from noon until 8pm with our fabulous
Sunday roasts as well as our main menu, so
why not treat your dad to a lovely meal as well
as a free gift, courtesy of The Queen’s Head?
And in keeping with the family theme, we will be
welcoming back Grandad’s Jazz Band to enter-
tain us between 3-6pm. They will be playing
their classics on the patio (weather permitting!).
From Monday, 23 June until Sunday, July 6
it’s all about sets and nets, cheers and tears,
screams (enough already, Ms Sharapova!) and
strawberry and cream as The Queen’s Head
serves up a large portion of the sporting spirit
during the Wimbledon Ten-
nis Championship.
We will be screening major
matches during the day
throughout the fortnight, so
come and join us for some
quintessentially seasonal
strawberries, a cream tea, ice
cream sundae, or maybe
even a cheeky Pimm’s as we
follow the action.
If you’ve got any tennis
shorts, you might want to
wear them if you visit The
Queen’s Head on Friday,
June 26 when we take part in
the fundraising Wrong Trou-
sers Day. See page 2 of this
newsletter for details of this
fun event which raises much-
needed money for children’s charities.
On Saturday, June 27 we are delighted to
welcome popular local band Summerhouse
whose playlist - ranging from the 1950s to the
present day - has a big emphasis on getting
you on the dance floor. So local that they
started out as the Broad Chalke Primary School
Parents band, Summerhouse is due to perform
around 8.30pm, so come and cut some shapes!
Looking further ahead, we are going back to the
1940s on Saturday, August 15 to mark the
70th anniversary of VJ Day, when the Second
World War finally came to an end. Expect fan-
tastic forties music, the team dressed in period
costume and a pint of beer for a shilling! Yes,
you read that right: we are offering a pint for
just 5p subject to terms and conditions and
while stocks last . Book your table now.

June 2015
The Queens’s Head is now offering an ex-
cellent meal deal for children that includes a
main course, Capri Sun drink and a scoop of
ice cream for just £5.95.
Our clever kitchen and amazing chefs can
prepare smaller portions of most of the
dishes on our regular menu to suit smaller
appetites.
Child-sized portions of our tasty beef lasa-
gne, beer-battered fish and chips as well as
omelette and veggie lasagne are just some
of the meals that are ideally suited to tempt
younger tastebuds.
In addition, we can usually rustle up some
sausages or chicken goujons - or posh
chicken nuggets, as we like to think of them -
to cater for our under-12 guests.
And don’t forget, we often have games and
colouring-in activities to keep our young
guests occupied.

In most issues of our newsletter we like to high-
light different Badger-branded beers brewed by
Hall & Woodhouse.
We are delighted to announce that our latest sea-
sonal ale is Firkin Fox - be careful how you pro-
nounce it! - which first made its debut in Spring
2011.
The beer combines our brewery’s finest Flagon
premium ale malt with the biscuity and aromatic
qualities of its speciality malts to give a very
moreish flavour. In Firkin Fox, Celeia and Cascade
are used as the aroma hops for a refreshing combination that hits
the nose and the palette. Here’s our at-a-glance
guide, but if you want to try before you buy, ask for
a sample at the bar:
Colour Auburn
ABV 4.6%
Aroma Intense, citrus floral
Taste Smooth, biscuity maltiness, and definitely
moreish.
A good match for…spicy foods, such as Mexican
Availability Early June until August as a cask ale.
Don’t be surprised if you see The Queen’s
Head team in pyjama bottoms or shorts,
on Friday, June 26. They haven’t forgotten
their usual smart dress code, it’s just that
they are participating in this year’s Wrong
Trousers Day - and we’re encouraging our
guests to take part, too!
The day is part of a series of events organ-
ised nationally by the Wallace & Gromit’s
Children’s Charity, which raises funds to
help improve the quality of life of sick chil-
dren and their families in hospitals and
hospices across the UK.
This year, it has raised more than £1.8
million for 87 children’s hospitals and hos-
pices from Brighton to Glasgow.
It is incredibly easy to take part in Wrong
Trousers Day, all you have to do is choose
something that you wouldn’t usually wear
to our pub - maybe hotpants, fisherman’s
waders, velvet flares, PJs, trackie bottoms,
shorts or even a tutu - and then wear you
whacky outfit with pride and donate £1 to
this very worthy cause. The event, inspired
by Nick Park’s Wallace & Gromit film The
Wrong Trousers, is now in its 14th year
and has given out more than £1.79 million
in grants that have helped fund projects
such as music and sensory therapy as well
as family accommodation.
The Queen’s Head landlady, Elizabeth
Edwards, commented: “Our team is really
keyed up about Wrong Trousers Day and
having a laugh about what they might
wear. I expect we’ll seem some interesting
outfits, but it would also be fantastic if our
guests could enter into the spirit and turn
up in some crazy clothes.
“It only costs £1 to take part and it is for
such a good cause. And in keeping with
the Wallace & Gromit theme - and as an
extra incentive - we’ll be offering cheese
nibbles on the bar.”
For more details about the charity, see
www.wallaceandgromitcharity.org. We look
forward to seeing you on the day!
