Design Solution

Newhey’s design team were briefed by Trevillion Interiors to produce a carpet design that is influenced by symmetry and geometric patterns. It was key that Newhey’s design offered a balanced concept that wouldn’t complicate the space, especially on the grand staircase.

From the outset it was clear that Newhey’s Colortec+ technology would be a perfect solution for the carpet design. This specific technology allows that carpet to be tufted using computer yarn placement, meaning its durable qualities are perfect for the high footfall of a busy hotel. Although the technology allows for a cost-efficient solution, the quality is still of a high standard due to the carpet construction which uses 80% wool and 20% Nylon hank dyed pile yarns.

Newhey’s advanced secondary backing system ‘evobac’, which is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, which also gave the design firm a sustainable and environmentally friendly carpet option.

Newhey used the one design concept throughout the 84 guestrooms and public areas yet transformed the scale and combination of tones to offer a slight variation throughout the different rooms. The project was completed for the hotel re-opening date in November 2015..

“The hotel itself was referred to historically as The Noblest building of its kind in Europe, of Palladian style demonstrating the perfect proportions and symmetry typical of Georgian period, we chose to consider symmetry and geometric pattern to influence much of the design intent. The carpet design had to sit well alongside heritage detail and in particular on the main staircase which features the historic Pugin Wallpaper. The carpet had to be neutral enough to not complicate the space yet sufficiently detailed to provide a practical solution. The design concept was maintained throughout the property simply altering the scale and combination of neutral tones to deliver a subtle difference to main public areas, function room and bedroom schemes.”
