How does your media product represent particular social

groups?

How the characters are represented

• The representation of each character was well thought out and planned before doing any filming. Each character has a particular type of clothing that they should have been wearing this shows the audience by their appearance what social class they are and what they are like just from looking at them. These characters can automatically be realised by the way that they dress for example a hit man will dress in dark clothing looking scary and trying to blend in and a mafia boss will obviously dress smart and be looking wealthy. That is what we did with my character as I was the boss so I had to have a shirt and tie looking rich and dressing like a boss would.

Using iconography • The clothing type of the boss will almost be

like an office type look these characters are often very stuck up and self obsessed they also believe that the whole world revolves around them. This is shown by their body posture and their facial expressions showing the audience that they are in charge. These characters rely a lot on iconography because everything they own is very high tech and of the highest quality for example the bosses phone in our film.

Character representation through their roles.

• In the movie taken the man who has kidnapped the daughter is still being ignorant and not giving him the information that he wants. The same with our film the boss and the girls are asking tonys character for the information that they need but yet he still does not give it. this show by his role how he is represented because he clearly is stuck up and ignorant and although he has already been hurt he will not give it up. This may show ignorance but it may also show a lot of bravery as he sticks true to his beliefs.

• the boss in our opening and the boss in taken both have similarities as the both dress similar and they both look down on their victim who is on a chair tied up. They both pace around asking the questions showing they have power this use of levels really does show this as the boss looking down on his victim shows the power that he has over him and how vulnerable the victim looks and how intimidating the boss looks. We tried something different by taking his top off and showing the blood on the victim this had a different effect as the audience will feel sorry for him.

• The characters in Attack the block are similar to the characters in Retribution. The characters live up to their stereotype that society has given them. The black male characters are the hit men making them live up to their stereotype as the being violent and aggressive which they fulfils when they start the action in the opening. They are wearing all dull colours and their face is hidden, hiding their identity and everything that shows in their facial expressions. This enables them to get away with the physical violence they are committing.
