Question 3:What kind of media institution
might distribute yourmedia product
and why?
Our film company is called Dig Productions. The style and genre of film that would be
produced by this company would be romance, romantic drama or teenage films.
This would then mean that the target audience for these films would be female
and around about 15-25 years old.
Due to our film Absence being a romantic drama this then means that our distributor
would need to have had previous experience when distributing the same genre as Absence. This is because we
believe that the distributor would know what aspect or marketing strategies to have in order to sell and distribute our
style of film.
From the research that I have carried out I found out about some independent
distributors. Some examples of this are..
1. BFI London Film Festival2. East End Film Festival
These companies are interested in London film makers and independent film
makers.
The BFI London Film Festival is the UK's largest public film event, screening more than 300 features,
documentaries. The Festival showcases the best of world cinema to champion creativity, originality,
vision and imagination, and presents the finest contemporary international cinema from both
established and emerging film-makers. This company would be suitable for our film as it is original, creative
and from emerging film-makers.
The East End Film Festival is one of the UK’s biggest film festivals. In various venues across East London the festival annually showcases hot new talent and home-grown films informing and inspiring a new generation of filmmakers. Raising the profile of this vibrant and diverse area - London’s East End. This is a great distributor for out film as we have unique and different to the stereotypical romance films which is what they are looking for.
Focus Feature is a prime example of a potential
distributor for our film. This is because they are a division of
NBC Universal and they are also producers and distributors.
Focus Feature have also produced and distributed many well known romance
style of film, for example
•Brokeback Mountain (2005)
•Pride & Prejudice (2005)
•Jane Eyre (2011)
•That Awkward Moment (2014)
