Related to the genre – Action

A type of genre has a primary target audience that the advertising and aspects of the film are tailored towards, they can also appeal to people outside of that audience, this could be referred to as the secondary audience. Typically to the action genre the audience would be male teens to young adults (15-25),however very popular among a broader audience. As a popular genre, and having many big actors that will attract more than just that niche audience. However I did not have the opportunity to have my film star these actors that would bring a fan base to the film, and so have chosen to aim the film at the stereotypical action genre audience.

My audience

Having based my general and most common viewer on the typical action fanatic, being male and interested in action, explosions and fight scenes. I have tailored some aspects and scenes of my film in order to attract and captivate the target audience. Some of the usual inclusions a director would include however, such as car chases or explosions are not in my film due to the lack of funding available to me.

Scenes to attract the audience

In the film opening I have made sure to include a fight scene, this is to hook the audience from the start, the two characters we see in the film opening are also of a similar age to the stereotypical one of the audience, this makes it easier for the audience to relate to the film and they are therefore more captivated and hooked by it.

For the same reason of attracting the audience, I have include a scene where the main character is supposed to be interpreted as training, this also involves the audience as they could realise that they themselves can train and could then aspire to be like those in the film they watch, making the character more relatable and more human, implying that even a star of an action film has to learn and train.

How did I address my audience

With the audience of a film from the action genre typically being fairly impatient and wanting fast paced films, I chose to include a fight scene within the opening. This addresses the audiences wants and makes it more likely they will feel that this is the film for them, right from the start. With it fitting into the action genre straight away. I have also used costume to support the typical stereotypes of the actors supposed roles, for example the suit the agent is wearing at the start, giving the impression to the audience that he is professional and good at what he does. But then later on in the opening when he confronts the target, he is dressed in a hoodie, showing that he has changed into someone darker, wearing hood to support this as if something shady is about to happen. This addresses the audience and shows them who the character is and what there mentality is at the stage of the film, making it easier to follow.
