A2 Media Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

IntroductionIn my A2 media course I was set a

challenge by producing a music video for an unsigned artist as well as

designing my own advertisements which will be a magazine add and a

digipak to promote my chosen artists album. I faced the challenge of

getting used to using programs that I have little or no experience in such as

final cut In result of practice and constant use of it I have developed more understanding in how things

work and increased my confidence as a media student to produce good standard work through the use of

technology.

EQUIPMENT USED AT

PRACTICAL STAGE

The equipment used during the construction of our music video played a large part of my media production.

We used a Sony video camera to film with a fire wire to upload the footage straight to the mac the disadvantage to this was time was wasted waiting on the minutes of footage being captured used during the construction of our music video played a large part of my media production.

Digital camera

This was used during my pre production stage to take reckiphotos for ideal locations for my music video.

I also used a digital camera for capturing images of my artists for my digipak this was an advantage as it was quick and easy to get the images of what

Flip CameraThis was used to video my audience feedback I received from my the media students in my class and teachersIt was easy to use as it is portable and easy to import my footage because it has a USB port on the side were as the camera I had to use a fire wire which often took up allot of time. It had HD quality making the footage come out really sharp and clear.On the the other hand battery life wasn’t very good .

Final Cut express

Also during the production part of my practical during the editing process we used the software Final cut express which I had no experience in but was the only program that I could use to edit my music video to a good standard the use of effects, and transitions and the quality of the footage on the program.This program was used to edit my rough draft of my music video and used to complete my final version of the video.

An advantage of using this program was the footage came out in good quality.A disadvantage of final cut is it tends to crash quite often causing work to be lost.

Photoshop

During the advertisement part of my work for my digipak and magazine designs Photoshop was used to create and manipulate pictures taken or my artists from my digital camera.

I was able to create new layers and place in fonts and change the co lour scale it was a challenge to show creative skills.I think Photoshop was very user friendly as I only had to learn the basics to get used to it then exploring on my own helped me learn new things.

It helped me produce a excellent quality of images to a high standard which I was proud of .The disadvantage of this program was that it was only limited to manipulating photos but can not do the same for videos.

Garage Band

I used Garage Band to cut the length of the sound track I was using in my music video as it was too long and at the time I had limited amount of footage.

It was very quick and easy with no problems at all I uploaded the Mp3 file of my soundtrack Friends forever then picked what parts I wanted to delete I then highlighted the areas and pressed cut of control X.

The only problem I Had with garage band is that is is a slow program in terms of saving changes it did crash once or twice.

I movieI used I movie to do my Animatic for the planning stage of my work this helped me to put together a quick and short movie from my storyboard drawings to give the audience a feel what my music video might look like.

Also in order to place my video on Blogger I had to move it into an I movie file before uploading it or it would not work.

BloggerAs I am familiar with this program because of using it in my AS media production.

I used Blogger throughout the whole of the production stages as I used it to post all my Ideas an pre production things as such as posting my pitch, market research, reckishots and storyboard

I also use it to post some of the research I done on the genre of music I was making as well as posting my final products and the process I went through in order to reach to the final stage.

I also used Blogger to answer question two of my evaluation question and It will be used to submit my finished evaluation .

FacebookI received some positive feedback by and criticism though the social networking website Face-book.

I uploaded my final music video on to my profile page this worked in an effective way as the public could have a chance to watch our video and share their opinions on what they think.

Audience feedback was easier to share our music video and in result of this some criticisms were seen as a positive to help me know what the audience did or did not like, what they want more of and what I need to improve on to make my music video 100% successful.

I see the internet as a good use of technology as its simple use in terms of promoting videos etc.

Hotmail

I used hotmail to contact my artists to ask fortheir permission to use there soundtrack tocreate my music video for my A2 media project.

I sent them an email with my professional emailaddress and received a reply that I have thereconsent to use their sound track in my video.This was apart of my planning process.

Safari

I used Safari for my planning to do research on my genre I used it to look for examples of Digipaks and posters other artist used to give me some ideas on how my final product should look.

I logged in to Safari to get to the following websites Blogger, YouTube, Facebook sites that I used for my evaluation. Without safari I would only have Mozilla fire fox as an option as Facebook and some times blogger is blocked on the Apple Macs I use at school.

YouTubeYoutube also helped promote my artists as I uploaded the video and it was released under my Youtube account it was fairly simple.

It was also important when it came to researching music videos in relation to the grime genre Youtube provided me with the videos I needed to analyze so I can grab ideas an understand the conventions used within that genre.

This benefited me allot as I was able to use, develop and challenge conventions and display theories and references from other music videos.

I also use Youtube during my evaluation process I found it was a good and fairly simple way to answer my question one as I could Place annotations onto my video while it plays it provided tools such as placing notes on the video, tags, titles and provided a pause button so the views can get a chance to read your annotations I think it was a professional choice of form in which to present my evaluation.The disadvantage is if there is no internet access you can not use it

I stop MotionThis program was introduced to me during my pre production stage in my planning were we were given the chance to explore on how to create short exciting video clips it helped gather ideas on how to use it what ideas you can place to create interesting movement having that experience meant you would know what to do if you wanted to imbed some I stop motion into your music video but in the end I decided not to use it.

GoogleI used Google throughout My researching stage when I was researching theories and conventions .I also used it to research examples of posters and digipaks and ways to market a artist.I also used Google at the early stages of my planning to look at Indi bands and artists and independent labels to look for a person for my market campaign.

The advantage of this is I always find Google to be user friendly as you can find any piece of information you search for

Slide ShareI used slide share to place my Powerpoint of my pitch in my planning stage I also used slide share in my evaluation stage to submit my question 4 in my A2 Media evaluation presentation.

It presents the presentation in a simple presentable way.

The disadvantage of this is that I can never place moving images in it its only for presentations .You have to have internetAnd it takes long to upload what you want
