Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have

learnt in the progression from it to a full product?

Mise en scene – Location & Props

In my preliminary task, I took the picture outside were light was available. This enabled me to capture a clear photo for my front cover. I was happy with the outcome of the preliminary front cover, so I did the same for the main product, the front cover. However this time I took the picture at a park rather than the college. This offered me better lighting, a better scenery and made it easier to crop out the areas of the background that I did not want to use, so I could create my own.

I did the same for my contents page(the main image). In my preliminary task, I took the picture in college but for my main task, this was done in the same park as taken for my front cover. The other two picture in my main task were take in a classroom, also with great lights and on a white background. This was better than the preliminary task due to having experience from the preliminary task, I now knew what to do.

I looked closely when thinking about the props for the preliminary task and the main task due to them being create for different purposes. The preliminary for college students, so mainly educational information and the main task is for music purposes.

Using Equipment and Management of Time

For both, the preliminary and main task, I had to use a digital camera given to me by my college as I don’t have a professional camera myself. During my preliminary task, I had to keep on getting more and more batteries as the camera only used them and was not chargeable. For my main task I managed to use a chargeable camera that could also use batteries. This allowed me to take images for longer.

Again for both, the preliminary and main task I used the software Photoshop to create my media product. I learnt how to use such different tool as such as the laser to create a fine cut of the areas I did not want to produce a great media product.

I was able to manage more time on my main task than my preliminary, as I saw it to be more important. I was able to think about images that I wanted on specific pages of my magazine and who, and where I wanted to take them.

I was also able to play with more software that was available to me, such as Photoshop and PowerPoint, through the preliminary task as I gain more experience and knowledge on what I was doing and wanted to achieve.

Management of Time I was able to manage more time on my main task than my

preliminary, as I saw it to be more important. I was able to think about images that I wanted on specific pages of my magazine and who, and where I wanted to take them.

Designs When looking at my preliminary task, there is far more information

on just one page, for example the front cover. As the are for different purposes this is understandable, so I had to less the information for my main task to make it look more professional.

However for my contents page, I’ve done the opposite. I’ve put more information on in the main task than the preliminary. This is so the wider range of readers get more information on what articles would be featured in the magazine.

I’ve learnt through my preliminary task that I have to make everything equal from the front cover to the contents page to the pages are not overloaded with information and pictures.

Finding / Using Models I used a variety of models when creating both my preliminary and main

products. This is so I could experiment on with who would be perfect for my magazine.

There was only one model I used in both my preliminary and main task. This is because they were always available when needed to produce my magazine and I felt that were a good representation of my genres on my main task.

I chose one model in a wheelchair as oppose to everyone standing, as I wanted to represent everyone in society as there are many disabled people. This again makes my magazine different and unique from others.

When creating my college magazine, I could really choose any student available in my college as this institution consist of many races, classes and different ethnic backgrounds. However, during the planning and drafting of my main task, choosing a model for the front cover, contents page and the double page spread had to be more thought about due to the different audience.
