Shots

Shots such as shot reverse shot, match on action and panning, that we learnt in the preliminary task helped a lot when creating our film opening.

Panning used in both videos

Close up

The use of close up, to inform a sense of importance, was useful in both videos and was very effective when viewing.

Detail

When reviewing our first video we came across something unusual, which was that the footage was all blurry. From that mistake, we learnt to came sure simple details are checked, like the lens (of the camera) being clean before use.

Setting the scene

When making the preliminary video we realised the videos the a shot of where it is set, helped make sense of where the characters are to the audience.

Diegetic sounds

Diegetic sounds in our preliminary task made a difference and exaggerated some of the actions of the actors, therefore we followed on with this and used sound effects e.g. bird noises when in the park

What we improved:

Actors

Instead of using students for college, for our opening we used an actor with acting experience.

No unwanted people

Making sure that there wasn’t something unnecessary or unneeded in the background, that may draw the viewers attention away from the story line.

Editing

When editing our film opening we spent more time focusing on the details of editing. Instead of just having a long stream of footage, we rearranged our clips to fit and tell a more intense story

Titles

When researching film openings, there was a repetition of films having titles at the beginning over footage.
