Question 1

Evaluation: Question 1. In what ways does your media products use, develop and

challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

Use I have used back streets for my filming to give my trailer a street feel to it. By keeping it in the back allies and on the streets gives it a shifty feel to it. It has high action areas in it and is always being taken place in the streets.

The idea of shifty is two lads who get involved in drugs and try and get out but they are in to deep to try and get out of. This is a story line that me and wes like the sound of because it is something different to what everyone else was doing with their work. It was a new idea and we thought it would work.

Use

The over the shoulder hand held cameras was something we wanted to incorporate into our work because this almost defines social realist, having it up close and personal with wobbly camera work makes a social crime film. We wanted to have as many of the shots we could with a hand held camera to give it a real effect.

Develop

There is a section in the later part of the trailer where me and Wes walk around a corner in slow motion, which is something that you don’t normally see in social realist films because it is seen as a stylistic transition. We thought that we would try this because along side the music it suited a slow motion walk because the bass drops and the whole track slows down. It was something that we thought we would try it and it worked.

Challenge

The age of the actors is something we have challenged, I have gone for a younger actors because I want it to try and meet the niche market that is young crime films. I think this is a market that could be explored more which is why me and Wes experimented with it. Also it was the only age group that was available at the time of filming the work, so it worked out well for me.
