Question 7:

Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your

final production

Research and planning• My skills have developed a lot since the prelim task of creating a school

magazine, this has had a massive impact on my magazine to make it look of professional standards. After researching other music magazines I had a better understanding of the forms and conventions which I could apply to my own magazine. I definitely managed my time better which is obvious between the two magazine front covers

Construction

• From the prelim to making the actual magazine, my photoshop skills developed which is evident in my final product, including changing the colour of the image to make my model stand out better. I also learnt how to use the cameras to compose a good photograph, I used the studio to make my images look more professional. I researched other magazines and looked at the composition of the page, eg text to image ratio. I then tried to include this into my magazine so my audience would get put off by too much text. I thought carefully about what font I would use, comparing them to the ones used in professional magazines, I wanted it to appeal to my target audience, which is apparent in the prelim task that I didn’t give much thought into what font I used.

Prelim to final product

• It is apparent that I used my time more wisely and planned better than in the prelim as my contents page isn't finished. Looking at other music magazines really helped to understand the forms and conventions which I tried to include in my own magazine. It is evident how my Photoshop skills have developed throughout by comparing the two contents pages.
