‘Takeover’ Still Under a Cloud... Likely G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint favoriteTakeover Target (Aus) (Celtic Swing {GB}) still showed

Aan irregularity@ when a blood samplewas taken Friday morning. HongKong Jockey Club stewards advisedowner/trainer Joe Janiak of the find-ing, but Janiak informed them thathe did not yet wish to scratch hischarge from Sunday=s contest. Theseven-year-old gelding could earn a$1-million bonus with a victory in theSprint, and Janiak was inclined towait until the morning of the racebefore making his decision. AWe arestarting to run out of time, but atleast we will know more this after-noon [Friday],@ he told Australian SkyTV. He added, A[The shot] was ad-

ministered in Japan to help him travel over here. Nor-mally it is out of the system within two weeks, butnow we are at the seven-weeks mark. It has secreteditself, I believe, in the ligaments of the neck somewhereand it won't release. We will see what sort of level ithas gone down to and, if we are pretty close to themark, we might have to sweat it out until Sunday. Ihave used this stuff before and I have never had anytrouble with it. I gave myself plenty of time and I can'tbelieve it hasn't gone out a month ago. It's such ashame because he was jumping out of his skin at hisbest weight of 514 kilos and Jay [Ford] said he was flatout trying to hold him today."

Kastoria Out to Make Amends... The Aga Khan=s Kastoria (Ire) (Selkirk), who had athree-race winning streak snapped when she falteredover soft going in the GI Canadian International atWoodbine Oct. 22, will hope to get back on track inSunday=s G1 Cathay Pacific HongKong Vase over 2400 meters.AThe ground was too testing inCanada,@ explained trainer JohnOxx. AIt is the end of the yearand she came home a bit down inthe dumps, but she recoveredwell, so that is why we are here. There must be a little questionmark about how she will perform, but we are here to try to earnsome prize money.@ The blaze-faced chestnut had apipe-opener on the grass at Sha Tin yesterday, sailingthrough 400 meters in :25.40. Unraced until four,Kastoria defeated Collier Hill (GB) (Dr Devious {Ire}) inthe G3 Curragh Cup July 1 and, two starts later, de-throned Yeats (Ire) in taking the G1 Irish St. Leger Sept. 16 at The Curragh. She wound up eighth to Col-lier Hill at Woodbine in her most recent outing.

Cathay Pacific Extends Race Sponsorship... Hong Kong Jockey Club Chairman John C.C. Chanannounced that Cathay Pacific has extended its spon-sorship of the Hong Kong International Races until2010. The original three-year sponsorship agreementbegan in 2004. AMay I extend the Club's warm appreci-ation to Cathay Pacific, whose support has undoubtedlyhelped establish our meeting as the Turf World Champi-onships,@ said Chan. Cathay Pacific=s Chief ExecutiveOfficer Philip Chen added, AThe partnership has cer-tainly helped to establish Hong Kong as the eventscapital of the world. Earlier this year prizemoney for therichest day in Hong Kong's racing calendar swelled to arecord HK$62 million for the four Group 1 races.@
