Element 1: Needs Assessment

Goal Objectives

To complete a thorough needs assessment in order to create a comprehensive drug/alcohol prevention and

safety education for secondary students and their families.

1.To create research based, proven effective assessment tools for all EANES ISD secondary schools2.To evaluate data received from needs assessment to develop program for students and their families that address significant issues found in needs assessment.

Element 2: Substance Abuse Prevention and School Safety

Goal Objectives

To reduce the level of abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other substance use and increase school safety on all EANES ISD

campuses.

1.To reduce district-level student reported use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs within a previous 30 day period by 2% annually from the baseline (2007-2008 school year) with a cumulative reduction of 8% by 20112.To decrease the reported number of referrals to the alternative school (AEP)by 5% annually .3.To decrease recidivism rate among students returning to AEP by 5% annually

Activities Measures

To encourage reduction in substance use and violence, the following curricula will be purchased and implemented with appropriate EANES ISD students and families.Strengthening Families (Substance Abuse Prevention) for parents and their children ages 10-14 (modified for HS), training in JanuaryProject Alert (Substance Abuse Prevention) for 7 and 8th graders WHS SSC will begin planning school wide prevention program for Fall/Spring semester including Dating Violence Prevention for 9th graders in SpringChoose Respect dating violence prevention program for 7th and 8th gradersEvaluating current prevention programs in district including coordination of elementary feeder school programs Underage Drinking Prevention Taskforce presentations to middle school students.Design “reentry” program for students placed in Alternative School (AEP) and additional services needed at AEPFaculty trainings so that they will identify and refer students having problems with bullying, anger management, and/or substance abuse to SSC’s. (current drug trends, how to recognize drug use etc.)SSCs will be trained to assess and provide research based prevention programs as well as attend necessary conferences/trainings to stay attune to current trends in prevention researchSSC’s will meet with elementary schools counselors to provide support regarding substance abuse prevention and school safety Depending on PRIDE survey results, SSCs will implement and design programs to fit needs of Eanes ISD students including a “bully proofing” curriculum or healthy students initiativeApply for a grant for C.L.E.A.R./ Shattered dreams program (WHS)

Element 3: Mental Health Support Services

Goal Objectives

To improve mental health/wellness of all children and youth.

1.To provide mental health questions on PRIDE survey measuring overall mental health of all EANES ISD students beginning in the 2007-2008 school year2.To increase the use of appropriate mental health and early intervention services provided to students referred by EANES ISD counselors from baseline levels determined during the 2007-2008 school year

Activities MeasuresSSCs will create individual and group treatment to meet the needs of each secondary campus and family counseling as neededSSCs will design outside referral list for parents, teachers and other counselors with current trusted providers in areaSSCs will design “crisis” phone tree for all counselors in EANES ISD districtSSCs will design transition program from AEP to student’s original home school and make referrals to community as neededSSCs will also provide initial assessment and weekly counseling to all AEP students and/or communicate with community referral regarding progress Bring community resources into school and coordinate any services they provide to EANES ISD studentsFaculty trainings on current mental health issues related to specific campus as needed including attending Teacher Team meetingsServe as key member on Student Assistance Program on each secondary campus

Element 4: Supporting And Connecting Schools And Communities

Goal Objectives

To involve the community and parents in the development of a community-wide system of comprehensive prevention initiatives

for students and families.

1.To increase awareness among community members including parents about issues facing EANES ISD students including substance abuse prevention and other destructive behaviors. 2.To increase the interactions between EANES ISD and each identified community partner and or parent group at least one unit from baseline interactions

Activities MeasuresCreating a community referral list to offer to parents who need additional services that SSC’s cannot provide. Conducting at least 3 community forums to solicit input regarding priorities for substance abuse prevention and creating healthy and safe students (over 3 years)Conducting a web-based survey that is open to input from all segments of the community and is related to priorities for SSC’s goals and objectives (year 2 and 3)SSCs will attend partner meetings including SafeHomes, Eanes cares and DOA parent groups and coordinate preventions activities through these groupsSSCs will host and coordinate “Parent Talks” at least 6 times a year on various topics facing students at EANES ISD. Parent talks will rotate schools and be at multiple times and locations to meet the diverse needs of Eanes community.SSCs will serve on SSHAC committee and communicate with community members and parents about current programs implemented at EANES ISDInformation on counselor’s website for parents
