QR Codes

QR codes are a barcode that can be scanned, similar to the barcodes you find on the food that is scanned at the supermarket checkout. Instead of the QR code containing product and price information you can put whatever you like into the code. For example, a link to a website on the internet or to a specific document you loaded onto the school intranet. You can also prepare a QR code that has text that you want students to read or respond to. To read a QR code you use the camera of your smartphone, iPod Touch™, or tablet and a free ‘app’ you download onto the device. As you are scanning the QR code using a mobile device it makes the information portable, which is particularly beneficial in Physical Education.

How could you use QR codes in your teaching? • Fitness unit • Fast facts • Orienteering unit • Worksheets • Assignments

QR Codes

How could you use QR codes in your teaching? • Fitness unit

o create a circuit with stations o provide technique prompts o have a step by step sequence of images

for an exercise or activity o link to a video demonstrating the

exercise to be completed o create an adventure race

• Fast facts - key teaching points can be

embedded into a QR code and students access them to prompt their practice or to help them provide feedback to other students.

• Orienteering unit o QR codes link to directions or are used

as the orienteering control points

• Worksheets o QR codes can link to additional

information, instructions or resources.

• Anatomy o Put QR codes on a model skeleton or

provide the QR codes as a worksheet and have the student label their partner based on the information you provide.

What else can you think of?
